David Mosley (davidmosley) | 5 comments How do we add books in a series that have separate ISBNs but continuous pagination?

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Each ISBN is it's own entry.

David Mosley (davidmosley) | 5 comments What do you do about the pagination then for number of pages?

message 4: by vicki_girl (new)

vicki_girl | 2764 comments I would subtract off the pages of the previous volume(s), e.g.

Vol. 1 with pages 1 - 250 = 250 pages
Vol. 2 with pages 251 - 550 = 300 pages
Vol. 3 with pages 551 - 750 = 200 pages
etc.

David Mosley (davidmosley) | 5 comments Won't that confuse people using the progress feature?

Why? We aren't cataloguing the entirety of the page numbering of the work, we are simply calculating the pagination of that particular volume .

Right, but if I sit down to read volume 2 which shows page numbers 201-500, I read to page 300, go to update my status on goodreads, and all the sudden I see that according to goodreads I'm on page 300 of 300 and am done with the book. Now I have to do the maths in my head to figure out what page I'm on, assuming I've intuited what the goodreads librarian has done.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments Conversely, if you use 500 as the page number and input that you are on page 300, it will show you are over halfway done with that volume, which isn't correct either.

This is a (fortunately) rather uncommon issue, that (unfortunately) doesn't have a good solution or work around in the GR database.

No. It was decided a while back that it is more important that users be able to enter the page number they are on, without having to do arithmetic each time.

So did I. And although that means nothing (I miss stuff all the time), librarian manual?

Yup, should probably be in there, although it's a rare case.
