Staci Nouri | 1 comments I was wondering which book people would recommend for someone who has never read a romance novel before. I have ready fantasy books aplenty but never romance categorized ones.

Michelle (ndayeni) | 64 comments I think either of July's reads would suit well for an introduction to romance.

Desperate Duchesses (Desperate Duchesses, #1) by Eloisa James or Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers #1) by Sarah MacLean

If you want more FANTASY intro, I would recommend Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series, or possibly Poison Study by Maria Snyder?

Leah | 100 comments I think Felicia's pick for the first hangout was a really good intro to the genre. It's an Urban Paranormal series and really easy to get into. I guess it just depends on what sub genre you want to start with.

Jon | 91 comments I was in a similar position and really enjoyed nine rules, the love for Ilona Andrews work is well justified. It's outstanding stuff that sneaks up on you.

Sam Kuo | 6 comments So NPR and SFSignal had this flowchart for Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels last year:

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything similar for romance novels, but we should try to put something similar together for the group. They did have romance plot flowchart from an interview with the ladies at Smart Bitches, Trashy Bitches, which was pretty funny:

Niaomi (naespeedreads) | 32 comments I'd agree with Felicia the Maria Snyder series is a good starter fantasy/romance series to get you into it
