As I'm mentioned this is one of the most depressing books ever, but I still have to give it a high rating because it does cause an emotional response. Any book that pulls you and makes you think the way The Road does deserves to be read. I think you have to be a parent to truly appreciate this book and struggles faced by the man as he tries to protect and provide for his son in a world that is hopeless. We're not talking short term either. We are talking about living in a post apocalyptic world for probably close to a decade. A world with no trees, plants or animals but plenty of cannibals. I really don't know if I could do it but in his situation and knowing my love for my children I would try. I understand why the wife/mother does what she does but I hope I'm more like the father.
