Questions for The Forgotten - Chapter 7
1) So what do you make of Talin? I kept thinking she was changeling, I think it's the name, but she is supposedly human. She has a memory that recalls things prior to her birth and occasionally senses that something isn't right. Could she have a Psy in her family tree?
2) What did you think of the story of how Talin and Clay met and were separated? Sounds like perhaps Clay sensed a mating bond with her? He still insisted when he saw her, but wasn't sure if it was her, that she was HIS. Could the mating bond be noticed so young? It kind of reminds me of Twilight's imprinting. I checked and these two books came out the same year.
3) "Leopard Changelings aren't fertile except when mated or in a long-term stable relationship. No accidental pregnancies, no quickie marriages." I think I've heard that line before. lol Very interesting. Sounds like that includes both males and females.
4) What do you make of all the children disappearing? Could they be using them in their experiments for Protocol I?
5) You could really mess with changelings heads if you realize they can sense the truth. For instance:
"I'm sorry," Talin replied, sweet as honey. I don't do pretty boys. In fact, I don't do boys at all."...
"You like girls?" he asked very, very quietly.
I laughed so hard. She did make sure he knew her sordid past. She seems to want to keep him at bay or make sure he knows what he's getting into with her.
6) So if Talin had returned to him when she was 18 he would have forgiven all, but because she waited until she was 28 he can't or at least not very easily? Do you think he now understands her fear of him? I wonder if her fear of blood was a result of seeing the attack or if she had it well before that?
7) What a stopping point! She's sick? I find it interesting that Clay picked it up from her scent. I once read something about how animals can scent cancer or was it sickness on a person before they get diagnosed, so I thought this was a nice addition to the story. I'll have to see if I can find an article about it.

(1) I found myself contantly wondering is she was human, Psy, or Changeling. I think you brought up a very good point though - I would not be surprised if we find she has heritage of Psy somewhere back there.
(2) I thought this a very different and unique approach. I also find it fascinating that Talin is afraid of him because of what he did. That is an interesting information about Twilight. I didn't know that.
(3) Lol. I thought this hilarious. Clay was just too funny to me when he said this for some reason. I rolled my eyes.
(4) Your theory of them being used for experiments for Protocal I is very interesting, and yes, I would not be surprised if this is what is going on. Ashaya Aleine was introduced very early in the story. I wonder what her connection to all of this is? I wonder if she is somehow connected to the missing children? If so, your theory of the children being used for Protocol I would be correct.
(5) Yes, I think this girl is definitely going to give clay a run for his money, and she isn't going to make it easy for him. He's in for a fight. I like that about her. She's had to be tough.
(6) For seome reason, it's really hard for me to pin her fear of blood entirely on Clay's actions. I don't know why. Maybe I'm looking for something that isn't there. As far as forgiving her at 18, but not so easily at 28, maybe it's because more time has gone by, time in which she could have come forward at any point, but chose not too. The other side of that though is, at least she has come forward. I think Clay needs to be thankful she has come forward and has found her way back to him.
(7) This author knows how to wring you out over a cliff. That's all there is to it. It's one of the things I love about her writing though. I found this very interesting that something "smelt wrong" about her...like he could smell the "death" or something. Too weird. I didn't know that about the animals either. That's very interesting.

8) So Talin's illness is related to brain cell deterioration. It sounds a little like mad cow disease. At the mention of cells, however, I can't help but wonder if this is something Judd could fix?
9) What do you make of her blackouts? Sounds very scary.
10) New noteworthy organization--Shine. "It's aim is to support bright but underprivileged children who might never other wise have a chance." "Financed by donations from a number of wealthy philanthropists."
11) What do you make of Talin's shields? I keep thinking there's more to her than we've been led to believe.
12) First impression of Max? I don't think we've been given a whole lot of background on him. Wonder if he'll end up biting the dust or if he'll end up as someone's mate later in the series?
13) Do you think the kids are being stolen for testing with the implants? I would have thought it would have only been tested on Psy to work properly. Could someone else be doing the tests? Perhaps someone trying to determine if the kids truly are like Psy even if the DNA says they're human? Crazy how the dead children are missing their brains.
Note to self: Add Rehabilitation to list of definitions
14) I think Clay went a little bit overboard with his conversation with Talin. What did you think? He was a bit mean there.

(9) The blackouts are scary. I'm raelly wondering how the author will bring it all around. Will it turn out to be a mental thing or a terminally ill thing? But if it is a terminally ill thing, there goes the HEA.
(10) Yes. But there seems to be evil located somewhere in Shine, and I can't help but wonder because of one of your ealier observations, if this evilness in Shine is not somehow connected to the Psy. I'm thinking specifically of it being connected to Ashaya.
(11) I think you are absolutely correct here. I think there is more to her, but I haven't figured out if it is Psy or Changeling. You?
(12) I can't quite put my finger on Max. I get the impression (though I'm probably totally way off base) that there is something bad about Max.
(13) I never thought of the possibility of it being anyone else other than the Psy, but you are right - it could be something/someone we've not yet encountered or have heard very little about.
(14) Yeah, Clay can be mean. But this whole relationship is so totally different (yet at the same time, not so different) than the others she has written about. It just seems to me that Clay and Talin are meaner to one another than the previous ones. But that could just be me. I didn't really see a sensitive side of Clay emerge until he witnessed Talin's blackout. Then we say a little sensitivity. He sure was quick to judge her though, I thought, but then that is as it is in real life too, though, so...

We'll see.
(2) I thought this a very different and unique approach. I also find it fascinating that Talin is afraid of him because of what he did. That is an interesting information about Twilight. I didn't know that.
It is interesting how she fears him and knows she truly doesn't have too, but can't help it.
(3) Lol. I thought this hilarious. Clay was just too funny to me when he said this for some reason. I rolled my eyes.
:)
If Our Psy theory pans out, it may have something to do with the intro to the book.
(5) Yes, I think this girl is definitely going to give clay a run for his money, and she isn't going to make it easy for him. He's in for a fight. I like that about her. She's had to be tough.
Me too. I think that's what Clay likes too.
I agree
(7) This author knows how to wring you out over a cliff. That's all there is to it. It's one of the things I love about her writing though. I found this very interesting that something "smelt wrong" about her...like he could smell the "death" or something. Too weird. I didn't know that about the animals either. That's very interesting.
I know and I love that about her writing style.

So you think the blackouts might have to do with an alternate personality. That would be a scary thing to have happen, but I could see a person being so traumatized that they'd disappear into their mind and perhaps become someone else in the process. This could get very complicated and crazy.
(9) The blackouts are scary. I'm really wondering how the author will bring it all around. Will it turn out to be a mental thing or a terminally ill thing? But if it is a terminally ill thing, there goes the HEA.
I don't know we'll have to see.
(10) Yes. But there seems to be evil located somewhere in Shine, and I can't help but wonder because of one of your ealier observations, if this evilness in Shine is not somehow connected to the Psy. I'm thinking specifically of it being connected to Ashaya.
Could definitely have something to do with Ashaya's experiments and wanting to spare Psy minds in favor of human's.
(11) I think you are absolutely correct here. I think there is more to her, but I haven't figured out if it is Psy or Changeling. You?
Dumbfounded at the moment. We'll have to wait and see what Nalini pulls out of her hat.
(12) I can't quite put my finger on Max. I get the impression (though I'm probably totally way off base) that there is something bad about Max.
I didn't get that vibe, but at this point anyone could be in on the killings and a cop would make them harder to catch if he's the investigator sent to track them down.
(13) I never thought of the possibility of it being anyone else other than the Psy, but you are right - it could be something/someone we've not yet encountered or have heard very little about.
With Nalini in command of the pen, anything is possible.
I agree he does seem to be a little less forgiving, but he also kind of tells us he's living on the edge with his cat. Plus, if she truly is his mate he'd be extra sensitive to her being with others. We'll have to see how this relationship develops. Right now it's running mainly on a past friendship and mutual attraction, whether Talin admits to it or not.

15) Have we ever known what Ming looks like? He sounds like an albino with a huge birth mark. I think this says something about him since he didn't fix the imperfection.
16) So Ming is experimenting in Iowa again. This seems like quite a distance from where the bodies were found. I keep wondering if there are two things going on or just one.
17) Are we certain the ghost is a man? Could it be Ashaya? She would know some of what is happening.
18) So we find out Talin may have led Clay to believe she was dead as punishment. Could this secret mean she can't be trusted?
19) Not sure I like Clay's women must be submissive remark. Seems like he should know better.
20) Things do not look good for Jon.
21) Down Below is that the term for under San Francisco where the rats live?
22) So the Changeling world is in the future or the present? (pg 132 about transportation)
23)Teijan is a member of the (for lack of a better term) the Rat pack. lol
24) Wha did you make of the comment "Last year Dahlia had succeeded in killing seven residents of Down Below before Teijan had tracked down and slit his form lover's throat. It was a chilling reminder of the road Clay had almost taken. almost" Did he almost go on a killing spree or almost date Dahlia?
25) Looks like an alliance with the rats will really work in the favor of DarkRiver and SnowDancer.
26) So do you think Anthony is the target or is the one targeting? I'm betting he's the target.
27) What did you think of Devraj Santos? Is he trying to help or in on a massive cover up?
28) Do you think Shine has a breach like SnowDancer did with Deiter?

(16) I can't figure all this out either, but I definitely think they are connected. I just don't know how yet.
(17) See, weren't we thinking at one time that the Ghost was Ming? Or am I getting that confused? And my other question is, is the Ghost a "good guy" or a "bad guy"? Or girl? Nalini has me all turned around, upside down, inside out, etc. Lol.
(18) Yes, this was totally unexpected. I didn't see this one coming. And yeah, you are right. What happens next time they are involved in a traumatic/life threatening situation, and he has to step up to the plate? What's the girl gonna do then...run away? No, she has to resolve this within herself once and for all. And she needs to be very forgiving towards Clay.
(19) Yeah, but I think he's just trying to see what he can get away with. It's going to be interesting to see just how far Tamlin will let it go.
(20) No, I'm scared for Jon. I don't think they are going to get to him in time. If not, this is going to be another situation where Tamlin is going to have to possibly "forgive" Clay, as he has promised her they will find him. If they don't, then he's let her down again, even though it's not his fault. Same basic principal as earlier in their lives. What do you know, they could be back to square one, and if so, we are really going to find out what Tamlin is made of.
(21) Yes, I believe that's what Down Below is. Below ground...in the Sewer. Reminds me of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Lol.
(22) See, I keep getting confused with all of this. Sometimes I can't tell what time frame we are in. Sometimes, I think we are in the past as well, like when they were talking about the family tree thingy, it almost seemed like Jon is someone from the older side - like a very distant relative or something. Very weird.
(23) Yes, I think he is the leader of the Rat Pack. But I may be wrong about that.
(24) I think this refers to the road Clay almost chose after coming out of prison. Like maybe he almost chose to go on a killing spree.
(25) Okay, I have to admit...I'm not really looking forward to Rat or Snake Changelings. Just the thought sends shivers down my spine. I'm one of those people that cannot even look at a snake on TV, let alone face a live one. It's going to be very interesting to see where this goes. But yes, I do agree that the Rat Pack is in a very good position to help both DarkRiver and SnowDancer.
(26) I agree. I definitely think Anthony is the target.
(27) I definitely think there is a breach somewhere in Shine. Someone in Shine is corrupt, if not the whole lot. Guess I'm going to have to change my mind on Max though, as it seems he's turning out to be on the "good" side.

Here is an image which might help you associate snakes with something other than creepiness. Let me know if it helps or if I should replace the creepy snake (I looked for the least creepy snake picture I could find for that one) I selected with this one in our cheat sheet. I hope you enjoy. :)
(view spoiler) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I think my pants are wet! ROFL

I have to click on it just so I can look at the guy. I'll ignore the snake. Lol.
:)

I agree especially since he is in charge of the Arrows and wields so much power. Plus, he seems to crave power.
(16) I can't figure all this out either, but I definitely think they are connected. I just don't know how yet.
I know, it seems they have to be connected.
(17) See, weren't we thinking at one time that the Ghost was Ming? Or am I getting that confused? And my other question is, is the Ghost a "good guy" or a "bad guy"? Or girl? Nalini has me all turned around, upside down, inside out, etc. Lol.
Yes, we did think the ghost was Ming. I don't know if he's a good guy or gal or if he's got his own agenda. Right now anything is possible. Nalini is the Queen of suspense building.
Good point and I agree.
(19) Yeah, but I think he's just trying to see what he can get away with. It's going to be interesting to see just how far Tamlin will let it go.
Yes, it will be and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Very true. She could get mad at him once again. Very unreasonable since he's doing the best he can.
(21) Yes, I believe that's what Down Below is. Below ground...in the Sewer. Reminds me of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Lol.
lol I loved Mutant Ninja Turtles. I watched the movie in college at one of the reduced price nights. It was fun seeing it in a large group. Too bad Nalini didn't pick turtle instead of rats. i like turtles more than rats.
(22) See, I keep getting confused with all of this. Sometimes I can't tell what time frame we are in. Sometimes, I think we are in the past as well, like when they were talking about the family tree thingy, it almost seemed like Jon is someone from the older side - like a very distant relative or something. Very weird.
Until I saw the comment about the underground transportation I thought we were in modern time, but I'm totally unsure now.
(23) Yes, I think he is the leader of the Rat Pack. But I may be wrong about that.
It was a little vague, but I think you're right. I wonder why they don't have a pack name?
(24) I think this refers to the road Clay almost chose after coming out of prison. Like maybe he almost chose to go on a killing spree.
I thought that too at first and then I started to wonder. Maybe I was too tire when I read this part?
(25) Okay, I have to admit...I'm not really looking forward to Rat or Snake Changelings. Just the thought sends shivers down my spine. I'm one of those people that cannot even look at a snake on TV, let alone face a live one. It's going to be very interesting to see where this goes. But yes, I do agree that the Rat Pack is in a very good position to help both DarkRiver and SnowDancer.
:)
(27) I definitely think there is a breach somewhere in Shine. Someone in Shine is corrupt, if not the whole lot. Guess I'm going to have to change my mind on Max though, as it seems he's turning out to be on the "good" side.
I hope it's one individual and not the whole foundation.

28) First question--Are they now mated?
29) What do you make of the allergy like attack? So strange.
30) We now know that Talin is part Psy. Do you think someone hid her true results? Could she potentially be someone who was smuggled out of the net? We have never found out anything about her birth parents.
31) I keep wondering if Talin is going through some sort of transformation. That or perhaps she's being controlled by someone and that is why she has the blackouts. Could she have been experimented on and have a brain implant? Or is she like Jon and more other.
32) It sounds like Ashaya is planning of defecting. Should be interesting to see how everything comes together.
33) What is Jon? "He's not human. He's not changeling. He is not Psy. He's more other than anyone I've ever before met."
34) Have you noticed without Clay Talin is very submissive, but with him she gets somehow stronger? Gains a backbone? I'm curious if you see that to.
35) So now we find out Talin decided to leave Clay before he left her. She had a bad case of low self esteem. Perhaps she thought that when he found out the truth of what Orrin had done to her he'd not love her anymore? It kind of seems like she's sorting through her emotions because she's not really sure why she left him.

36) New term: Territorial Wars - took place in the eighteenth century. "Thousands of changelings had died in the bloodshed taking the other races with them." Adrian Kenner, a human, acted as the mediator. That is an interesting bit of information.
37) I'm thinking Ashaya does have a conscience and might be a good person at heart. It seems like she wasn't totally silenced. I wonder if they might be able to rescue her son and her. If her son is safe, will she kill herself or just refuse to cooperate?
38) We have an assassinated Psy Council Member, Marshall Hyde who was the unofficial Council chair. Wonder who will replace him? I'm thinking the Ghost truly could be Kaleb now. How about you?
39) I'm glad the kids were saved.
40) Do you think Ming knows Ashaya helped the kids escape? Did she and the others do a good enough job of covering their tracks?
38) Will Larson be exterminated?
39) Will Marshall's death so soon after Enrigue's cause problems in the net and between council members?

(29) That was really weird because I was thinking about those blackouts she was having. Then all of a sudden this happens, and I'm way what???
(30) I think she could have been smuggled out. Like when all those others were dropping out because of the Silence thingy.
(31) This is a very good point about the transformation. I never thought of that, but it would certainly explain a few things.
(32) Yes, and I can quite make up my mind about her. I can't decide if she is really a cold-hearted Psy, or if there is the possibility of her being like Sascha and Faith.
(33) This too is very weird...almost like we are going to be introduced to a new "race" or something. We have three right now - Psy, Changeling, and Human. Is there something else do you think?
(34) Yes! It's almost like she's running scared or something. Then he comes along and she gets all feisty. Lol. As you say, she finds her backbone.
(35) Yeah. A case of she would leave him before he could leave her kind of thing. Which, I think this all stems from her childhood situation. Then on top of that, she follows through with a life style she knows Clay would hate - being with all those other men. I mean, she had to think of that right?

(37) It's going to be very interesting to see where Ashaya comes out in all of this. Did you pick up on the subtle attraction points voiced by Dorian in regards to Ashaya? I wonder how this will play out.
(38) I am totally lost on the Ghost. I cannot figure out who it is, but you are probably right. Who else could it be?
(39) I totally expected this to end bad for the kids. I really didn't think they were going to make it.
(40) She is sure putting on a very good front. I'm not sure she has Ming fooled though.
(41) I hope so, but they may just rehabilitate him.
(42) I really wonder if this is going to cause an uproar in the Council. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

43) So I was thinking this book was not going to answer what was going on with Talin or what she meant when she stated Jonquil was "other". Then I did a hand smack when she made everything so clear and I thought to myself, "Why didn't I think of that?" lol
44) Well, we were right that Talin was part Psy, although when they said she was only about 3% I kind of disregarded it. Nalini had talked about the brain killing itself when disconnected from the Net, but I didn't put that together.
45) What did you think about the "Others"? I thought that was way cool. So an intermingling of species caused a somewhat new intermingled type of human to evolve. May I just say this is brilliant?
46) So when Talin had her blackouts was she hooking up with all those guys so she could get a bit of a PsyNet type of connection from them? Was her body craving the connection and it took control? Kind of like a pregnant woman craving certain foods for nutrients did Talin's body go into overriding her mind to get what it needed? Do you think Talin and Clay could have had a similar connection when she was younger?
47) I was kind of disappointed with how little Max had to do with this book. I thought he'd play a bigger role. Wonder if we'll see more of him later on?
48) They caught the mole within Shine, but never said who or what position they held. I truly wish that had been a teeny bit more elaborated upon.
49) Dev talked about a boy who had such a tiny portion of Psy in him that when a mysterious illness popped up no one related to his Psy genetics. Could he have been talking about himself?
50) When should we start the next book, Hostage to Pleasure?

(44) Yes. We also learned in this book about those that dropped out of the Net, and apparently there are many that are intermingled (sp?).
(45) Yes, this was very interesting. Is it not just incredible how Ms. Singh comes up with this stuff?! What an imagination!
(46) I'm not sure if they could have connected similarly when she was younger or not. I connected her sickness to her being unable to connect. I didn't pick up on it having to do with her being with those guys, but I bet you are right about that. It makes sense that way.
(47) Max was a big lead in. I agree, and would have liked to see more of him. He may reappear.
(48) Yes, this all kind of felt like it was left on the back burner so to speak. I wonder if it will play a roll in the next book?
(49) It could very well be. Remember, that is why they didn't pick up originally on Tamlin's sickness.
(50) Can we start Sunday, September 2? Or would you prefer to wait a bit? I'm good either way.

Tomorrow should work. I'm reading Room too, but Sashana will be doing questions too so it won't be as hectic as when I did three buddy type reads together.

(43) It took me awhile too. I thought it was going to be stemmed in her childhood trauma somehow.
She had us fooled! :)

Yep. The forgotten. I guess some of the Psy didn't forget them or not completely. They had traces on bloodlines. That's pretty scary.

Ya gotta love her mind. I'd love to know her IQ I'm guessing it's on the high side.

I'm not certain if I'm right about the craving, it just hit me that maybe that is why she'd gravitate toward that behavior. Of course she supposedly went shopping for an hour during one memory lapse, but I guess that would be fulfilling a different kind of craving. lol

We can hope.

I would love to see Dev in another book. I'm guessing we'll hear more about Shine in future books.

Synopsis:
Clay Bennett is a powerful DarkRiver sentinel, but he grew up in the slums with his human mother, never knowing his changeling father. As a young boy without the bonds of Pack, he tried to stifle his animal nature. He failed...and committed the most extreme act of violence, killing a man and losing his best friend, Talin, in the bloody aftermath. Everything good in him died the day he was told that she, too, was dead.
Talin McKade barely survived a childhood drenched in bloodshed and terror. Now a new nightmare is stalking her life--the street children she works to protect are disappearing and turning up dead. Determined to keep them safe, she unlocks the darkest secret in her heart and returns to ask the help of the strongest man she knows...
Clay lost Talin once. He will not let her go again, his hunger to possess her, a clawing need born of the leopard within. As they race to save the innocent, Clay and Talin must face the violent truths of their past...or lose everything that ever mattered.
