Im between three books at the moment. Bewitching has several short stories in it, so when i finish one, then i will go to the next book. Red Rain is proving to be abit difficult to get stuck in. So Im reading Freak of Nature for now because Im enjoying it.

I was quite keen on this series and it started off on a good note, but i still personally feel that they should have left it at 3 books.

Sofia (fivesunflowers) | 17 comments Currently reading The Dark Half by Stephen King - awesome, love SK's very creepy and colorful storytelling. Also reading Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , this is not the type of book I would usually read, but it was an off-line book club pick and I am really enjoying it and reading it a lot faster than I thought. And finally, I'm also reading The Tipping Point How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference by Malcolm Gladwell , I am having a little bit of a struggle with this one but I am determined to finish it!

Heather, I think this is only my fourth Steven King novel and I am really loving it. So far, I think my favorite is Misery, BUT if you haven't yet, you need to read Everything's Eventual - it is a collection of awesome SK short stories.

I will definitely look into that.

My dad has read ever one of his books which is nuts cause he has more than anyone I can think. But he has a few that I've wanted to read forever. The first one was Desperation and the cover is the reason I first was interested. I always like thrillers or horrors growing up and the cover is really creepy looking.
And the other one I really want to read is The Green Mile. I've seen the movie and it's so good. Plus my dad said that the book is really close to the movie.

I have so much respect for SK as a storyteller - i've seen lots of interviews he's done and he does not claim to be an professional writer, more so than a unique storyteller - I think he is both. His imagination is beyond what most of us can even grasp at! Every book of his I've read I liked!

I agree, without having read any of his book and just seeing a few that were made into movies. I don't know where he comes up with any of it. There were a few that were a little more disturbing than even I could handle, but for the most part just creative.

I agree!! His movie "Pet Semetary" was the first movie I watched as a kid that ever gave me nightmares! As an adult, I want to expose myself to books that make me uncomfortable - that means I am learning something about myself you know? I think that's important as an avid reader, to let yourself be exposed to stuff that we never thought we would. I think you'd enjoy his books!

It is important. I try to read a book from a different genre each time I pick one. I like to mix things up with each book. So if I read a romance the next book might be a crime novel or something. I find I get more into the books that way, more brain stimulation than the same thing over and over. Series make it hard to do that sometimes if I get hooked on them though lol

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

My Dad has all Stephen King's novels...I can't understand why...He does have a few books that I did enjoy...but for the most part I could do without them

I could see why not everyone would like them. But I think I really would

message 70: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (nsmiles29) I read my very first Stephen King books last month. I read The Gunslinger and The Colorado Kid. I did not like either one of them. The Colorado Kid was just...kinda boring and The Gunslinger made me feel all weird inside. Horror is not my genre. (I know most people wouldn't consider The Gunslinger "horror", but it gave me the same feeling a horror book would. It also shows how tame my reading usually is! :)

So...no Stephen King for me. I'm glad I read at least one, though, so now I know.

Lucy Barrett I'm currently reading This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers by Courtney Summers. It's surprisingly good; I didn't expect to read it so quickly. It's about a zombie apocalypse if anyone's interested :)

I still can't get myself into these zombie things. Where did they all come from?

I did go see warm bodies when it came out with friends and I didn't find it bad.

Are the zombie books actually good?

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

Zombies make me laugh...I find them really dumb and unrealistic

message 77: by Dorcas (new)

Dorcas Cherogony I've been reading the Hobbit The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien , it's a classic fantasy novel. I'm loving it so far, I expected it to be something I'd have to think about while I read it but since it was meant for children there isn't much thinking to it, it's just fun! Its still taking me longer than it would to read say a YA contemporary but I'm trying to break out of the YA bubble and I think this is a great way to start. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to start reading some classics outside of a school environment as it is a pretty easy read and for anyone who enjoys extremely surreal fantasy (with hobbits, wizards, dwarves, elves, dragons, you name it)

Glenda (glenda-r) @Natalie, I don't like a lot of Stephen King's books either. But on the other hand, I found 11/23/63 absolutely wonderful and could hardly put it down to sleep or eat. Also, I I liked Under the Dome too.
