A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 848 comments So I set out to write a short Fantasy story about the balance of time and another story I hadn't planned wrote itself;)

The problem is the ending I had for the story I was planning now doesn't work.

Oh well something will come to me:)

Any other writers find themselves writing and finding what is ending up at the fingers isn't what started in the brain?

N.P. Statham (npstatham) All the time, my characters are always surprising me somehow - but that's the fun of writing, isn't it? I love that I never know how it'll really turn out until I actually write it down.

When I was writing Land of the Free (my soon to be published thriller), I started with an idea for a big ending, and then one of the main characters of my ending decided to die halfway through the book. But it was a really nice death scene, so I don't begrudge her - hehe.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll find an even better ending for your story and be happily surprised by it :)

Stories tend to take on a will of their own, and were just the entities at the keyboard. After you finish a book and start your rewrite, it's like reading someone else's story and not exactly like the one you had in mind months before. I agree. That's the fun of writing in a macabre sort of way.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 848 comments I finished it, not sure what to do with it though. I have no idea if it will fit into the "dark fairy tales" idea I have or not. It is too short to use as a stand alone as its only about a page and a bit.

Oh well I will hold onto it, I may decide to put it in the dark tales.
