L.A. Kent | 99 comments Just finished re-reading Children of the Revolution (Inspector Banks, #21) by Peter Robinson and really enjoyed it. The best so far now I think. The clunkiness of some of the books earlier in the series has gone, so the storylines were great and the characters saying the kind of words I thought felt to be much more in character (so to speak!).

Just started Abattoir Blues (Inspector Banks, #22) by Peter Robinson

Sandy | 499 comments Although I'm a devoted Rebus fan, somehow along the way I missed The Black Book. The Book Gods led me to find it in a sale bin at a second hand bookstore, great read as expected.

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) Just finished a very good and slightly different take of a golden age detective story The 12.30 from Croydon by Freeman Wills Crofts The 12.30 from Croydon by Freeman Wills Croftshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

She's been on my TBR list for a while but I have not read any of the series. I normally like to begin at the beginning with a series, but wondering if this is necessary for this one? I ask because my library doesn't have the first couple of books.

I can always buy the first one(s), of course, but I'll be doing a library run tomorrow and would consider picking up one of the later ones if you think that makes sense.

Hi Mary. If you like suspense with great twists, I really can't recommend her highly enough. They're all consistently good reads. If you want to read a series, start with Now You See Me, book #1 of Lacey Flint. The rest are stand alones so you can't go wrong by grabbing any of them.

Mary C | 172 comments Thanks for the info. I didn't think about reading a stand-alone. Need more caffeine this morning, I guess.

Would this author be a good option for our group read in April?

I think members of this group would enjoy any of her books but then I'm a big fan ;)
They're all consistently good suspense stories with well developed characters & killer twists. The only thing is they'd probably have to be a main read as I don't think her books get marked down that much.

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) I have just finished a really good psychological thriller Little White Lies by Elizabeth McGregor Little White Lies by Elizabeth McGregor. Chilling! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Written 100 + years ago...enjoyed it.

Beth Stewart | 644 comments Holy Orders by Benj. Black. Set in Ireland which was a change. But it was missing the mystery component completely, although that's what is was supposed to be. Did have a death but after that it was just a story, really,

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) The Truth About Diamonds by Nicole Richie
The Truth about Diamonds
by Nichole Riche

After reading a string of depressing or violent books, I went looking for something silly and mindless. When I saw that Nicole Richie had written a book, I definitely thought I had found it. I started it with a critical attitude but about a quarter of the way through when I started recognizing who she was writing about or a mixture of certain characters then I started to enjoy it. She tells of the stupid and dangerous things that she and her crowd were living out. It was very much like reading a tabloid (and don't deny you don't when you are going through the checkout line!) but you can definitely get the feel of who Nicole was at that time and the kind of person she began to aspire to be. As far as I know she has succeeded. I enjoyed the book.
This is not Shakespeare but it is fun.

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) The Taking by Dean Koontz The Taking by Dean Koontz

This was the third or forth time I have read this book and each time it draws me into the horror of the Apocalypse (or alien invasion) take your pick. It reminded me this time of reading my first Stephen King book--Salem's Lot and having to run through the house for the bathroom and run back and under the covers. That's how scary that book was and this one gave me the same creeps.

Thanks for your thoughts. FWIW, Missing,Presumed was much the way you described Persons Unknown. I think I will pass based on your review and try to find something more satisfying.

A bit disappointing for me, Mary. Unfortunately, I just didn't find the MC interesting enough to get wrapped up in the story & it all revolves around her.

On a happier note, just finished this & it's a keeper. Perfect Prey (D.I. Callanach, #2) by Helen Fields
