Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments We are a friendly lot here and there is something for everyone.

Please start by adding a post to our ‘Introduce Yourself ‘ thread. We are a nosey lot and would love to know who you are, what you like to read (and write), where you live and what you drink, eat, wear and grow.

This thread meanders off-topic quite a bit but as soon as a new member comes along our friendly but bonkers members soon appear to give you a warm welcome.

Of course you don’t have to introduce yourself if you prefer. You could head off to Meet The Authors,

check out our Monthly Book Selection, check out the New releases or play some Group Games.

The Author Zone is going great guns. This is not just for authors by any means but gives them a place where they can talk about publishing challenges and resources. It is a no-promo zone!

Even if you don’t feel ready to post something you are most welcome to sit back and watch the fun.

This forum is very lightly moderated (hardly noticeable), occasionally we will ask you to keep a particular thread on topic and we have a few simple rules about author threads and new releases.

There are plenty of ebook related threads, author related discussions including a debate on the merits of KDP Select and a place to share your musical taste.

If you have any problems you can post questions on the threads or visit our Agony Aunt and someone will come along and help. If you would rather not ask your question publicly by all means send a personal message (PM) to Patti or myself and we will try to help.

The plan is to clear the Introductions thread monthly to see if it makes things a bit easier for new members. Old Introductions can be found in the archive.

James R. (james_winterbottom) Hello. My name is James Winterbottom and I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I think I've been a member of this group for a while but have struggled to get my head around how goodreads works. My first book has just come out, so I've decided to take the plunge and get involved.

I've been writing for many years but having only just released my first book I am currently feeling my way through the marketing side of things.

As well as writing I enjoy films, music and supporting my local football team, Huddersfield Town.

Hi James :-)

It takes a while to get used to Goodreads but there is so much to look at and masses to interest you whatever you read or write. I'm only just starting to get used to it myself.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Hello James and Mikaleigh :o)

A word of advice on not knowing what to say, just say anything. It doesn't matter, we veer off topic a lot so you won't even get your wrist slapped for doing it!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hi Mikaleigh - just talk about the kitty on your profile picture and you'll do well :) We have a thread specially for pet chat.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Hi Mikaliegh. It's great that you could join us. You've done the hard part, writing your first post on here. It's smooth running now. If you need anything, just give a shout. There is a good getting started guide that might help.

message 25: by Katy (new)

Katy (kradcliffe) Hello! I thought I'd benefit from a UK Kindle group because UK-specific Kindle info would be valuable.

I'm an American living in Scotland.

I've been on Goodreads for a while. I read a lot, but it seems like there's never enough time to read.

I read mostly classics and literary fiction and some non-fiction. Sometimes I'll read a bit of Dean Koontz or Stephen King. I've always suspected I'd love science fiction if I only knew which books to read. That's my problem - I never know which books to read. That's probably why I mostly read classics. That and the fact that they're usually free on Kindle or cheap as used paperbacks.

message 26: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Welcome Katy :o)

We read Steven King's The Stand last month (some of us read it) if you have read it and if you want to join in the discussion it'll be down at the bottom of the groups main page. Feel free to pitch on in and get the discussion going again.

The morning thread is also where we meet at all times of the day.

Some of us reckon we might still be reading it at Christmas...

message 28: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments It is possibly the longest book I have ever read

message 29: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments You can't tell so much on a Kindle, but i saw a copy in WH Smiths at the weekend, and I swear it was bigger than Lord of the Rings! Massive!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments And every page is magic.

I think I'm about halfway through it at the moment.

Hi all the new people!!

message 31: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Hi Katy, welcome to our lovely group. Pre-Kindle I was like you fairly genre specific, however now and mainly thanks to this group I have tried almost every type of book and in most cases been pleasantly surprised!

message 35: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Kindles get you like that Mikaleigh, I am never far away from mine and just live it to bits. To think that I didn't want one, said I would never use it.
As Sarah said most of us have tried all types of books that we maybe wouldn't have tried before kindle.

message 44: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No, no. My new kindle is not allowed near water anymore, although I have been known to put it on the shelf above the sink while brushing my teeth so I don't have to stop reading.

message 48: by Lynda (new)

Lynda (lyndadeutrom) | 4 comments Hi, I'm another Kindle addict who until last Christmas swore that I'd never use one. Now it is never out of reach I've read more widely than ever before and re-read many fantastic books that I'd never get round to digging out of the attic (my family moan that one day the ceilings will collpase under the weight of books!)

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Hi Lynda and welcome aboard. I swear they couldn't make the Kindle any more addictive if they put crack in the box.

I've been away for the last couple of days and my phone ran out of power this morning. I was just grateful it wasn't the Kindle and carried on reading.

message 50: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Hi Lynda, welcome to our group, you are in very good company as we are all addicted to our lovely kindles.
