Tim Fairchild (timfairchild) | 69 comments In October of 2011, I entered my novel, Zero Point in The 2012 Clive Cussler Adventure Writers Competition. I'm very proud to announce that Zero Point made the top five finalists. The winner of the competition will be announced at the Clive Cussler Collectors Society convention which will be held October 6th, 2012 in Phoenix, AZ.

As a special offer, prior to the announcement of the winner, and the re-release of Zero Point in print version, I'm offering Zero Point for 0.99 until October 1st. If you're a Cussler fan, you're sure to enjoy Zero Point.

Tim Fairchild (timfairchild) | 69 comments My Thoughts on Zero Point.
In my story, Zero Point, I wanted to apply an adventurous tie with my characters between history, nature, and our quest for new energy. It was a good medium to express my awe of nature's sometimes harsh fury and that we as humans have this false sense of security that our planet, with its ever changing ecological and geological attributes, can never be altered, or in the case of my story, Zero Point, used as a weapon to harm us.

Nature has done some amazing things over millions of years. For example; Incredibly, human-kind was almost eradicated 70,000 years ago by an act of nature, leaving only an estimated 15,000 humans left on the planet, which is the subject of the next in my series, The Toba Element. Surprisingly, our planet was warmer in the 1500's than it is now. A Tsunami five-hundred feet in height was recorded as recently as 1958 in Lituya Bay Alaska, and that wasn't the first, or the last time it will happen.

Our planet Earth is an amazing, living, breathing thing; constantly changing and sometimes it can be a bumpy ride. It is human arrogance to believe that our world never changes, or if it is, that we alone are the cause. With that being said, we can surely expedite it with our greed, waste, and short-sighted thinking. We have a choice to be good stewards of our home, or not. If we choose the latter, our host, the planet Earth, will surely remove us as easily as a dog ridding itself of a flea.

Tim Fairchild (timfairchild) | 69 comments Only four more days until my trip to Phoenix Arizona to find out who the winner of the Clive Cussler Adventure Writers Competition will be. Am I having kittens at this point? Absolutely! :-)

I still can't believe it has been a year since I entered Zero Point in the competition and, as a new author, I have no idea what to expect should I win other than a cash prize and trophy; both of which are nice, but I'm more curious to see what will happen beyond that if I am fortunate enough to win.

Will it open an opportunity to become published through a traditional publishing house? Will it increase sales? Will it not change anything, and I just go back to being self published again? I haven't a clue, so I guess I'll find out after Saturday night.

It's been a long year waiting and I am glad that it is almost over so I can again concentrate on my half-finished sequel. The plus side is, I'll be fortunate enough to meet my favorite author Clive Cussler and his son, Dirk. That will be worth the trip, so I guess win or lose, it's a win win!

Congratulations, Tim! That sound like a big contest, so to final is impressive by itself. I sold my first book to a major publisher in 2001 after placing third in a contest. The editor that judged it bought it. So it is all possible. I have won or placed in other contests since then, but I don't think that affects sales much. The reading public isn't as aware of the contests as the writers are. Best of luck!

Tim Fairchild (timfairchild) | 69 comments Wow! What a fantastic weekend in Phoenix. Though I didn't win the competition, I won in the fact that I met so many talented writers. I met Clive Cussler, Dirk Cussler, Kerry Frey, Jeff Edwards, and many more. We finalists, who became friends over the weekend, are going to keep in touch.

Now I can release Zero Point in print after I do a cover re-design. I'll try to post a few pics of the event on my GR author page.

Thanks everyone for your support.

Well, I've been there; done that. Nonimated for the RITA award for best first book of 2002. Big deal for my genre, maybe a thousand entries. Didn't win, had a great time in NYC with My Hero and brother in tow. Got lots of attention and a nifty pin for my name tag. Met lots of folks and the book sold out. So move fast while everyone remembers. It's great publicity.
