I've noticed my worse book slumps come after finishing a long awaited book, especially when I love it.

Not sure it was a book slump but I did stop reading for a couple of years. I just couldn't get myself to read anything except for magazines and the like.

When that happens with 3 or more books in a row I know I'm in a book/reading slump. Eventually I'll snap out of it and I don't really know how I get out of it but I do. Unfortunately there are just those times for me when reading anything seems like a chore. The one upside to reading slumps for me though is that I write a lot more. So at least there is some positive.

My sister had a long period where she didn't read (because of bad health issues), and reading fanfiction got her back into reading anything.

I am going through a bit of a prolonged book slump. I have ups and downs where a book gets me going. I think it's because I have a lot of required reading (reviews). Usually a good paranormal romance or historical or Harlequin book gets me out of my slumps. Also, I watch tv or movies. Right now, we are watching Doctor Who and it's great because it's resting my reading chops and booting my imagination.

That's a long time. I think I would be really depressed if I had one that long. I'm glad you are over it.

Yes! Rereading favorites can propel you out of a book slump like a rocket!

Believe it or not, I discovered the Black Dagger Brotherhood during this time. I was told to check them out, they were exciting and the first two at least didn't require much commitment from the noggin to get through. It was true Dark Lover and Lover Eternal were easy, enjoyable reads that required little to no effort on my part. So when I got to Lover Awakened, which did require more of an active reading experience, I was able to give it that.
So that's why, no matter how much I complain about the series these days (And I have me some complaints!) I'll always keep coming back. It helped to get me out of a crappy and depressed time. Post partum sucks!
So BDB brought you out? I don't remember what book brought me out of my long slump. I remember I was reading a bunch of historicals. I think I grabbed a book I'd already read before. I got rid of hundreds of books but kept a select few. It was probably Julie Garwood or Kathleen Woodiwiss.
