Nikks | 521 comments Have done my fair share of backpacking in the past, one of the things I always looked forward to when getting to a new hostel was the bookshelf. You took a book and left a book. I came across new authors and genres I wouldn't have selected before. My most memorable find was The Godfather. Did anyone else enjoy this free exchange and I wonder if it still happens ?

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book Very cool! I have not experienced that.

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments I have! I loved checking out the book shelves at hostels, I picked up Surfacing by Margaret Atwood at The Green Tortoise Hostel in San Francisco and Eva Luna by Isabelle Allende in Alice Springs, having ditched Midnights Children after failing to read further than chapter 2! Oh, and read my first Doris Lessing novel in Sydney - Martha Quest.
