Karen L. I thought I'd post some thoughts on this chapter as well as some recollection from the study of this chapter in my Adult Spiritual Formation Class at church.

I liked this section on page 80 We are made to feel ashamed to wear clothes or drive cars until they are worn out. The mass media has convinced us that to be out of step with fashion is to be out of step with reality."

I used to concerned when my children would bring youth group friends to our home that our humble urban home would seem poor compared to their nice suburban neighborhoods. God convicted me and told me to continue to open our home and be ourselves with those who visited. Our kids friends have loved coming to our home and in fact one young man said it reminded him of the Weasley's in Harry Potter. I was tickled by that comment. Another one said it felt cozy and full of love.

A couple in the class was living without a car and finding that they enjoyed walking to the store, work and other places. They didn't have the cost of car repairs, or gas. I think simplicity is freeing!
