@Esther
Well, I didn't dislike Slammed, per-se, I just thought it was going to be so much more based on the countless 5 star reviews from my friends...
But I am disliking this second book. I'll finish it cause those are fast books but... MAJOR disappointment!

BTW, thanks for the Cinder rec. Liked it.

Yay! I hope you like Destiny Bind, as I loved the series and the book :)

Cinder's awesome, and Scarlet came out this months! I already have it :)

Stacy (stacydora) | 59 comments I am currently reading "There is No Light in Darkness" by Claire Contreras. And so far, it's terrible. I usually read a whole book in one sitting, but this one is so bad I had to take a break only 17% into it.

It's for another group I'm in, so I am going to finish it so I can participate in the discussion. But I think it might take me several sessions. =)
There is No Light in Darkness (Darkness, #1) by Claire Contreras

Well... first of all here is the book The Sword-Edged Blonde (Eddie LaCrosse, #1) by Alex Bledsoe . I admit that I picked the book mainly because of the cover. The description wasn't terrible either. It was pretty strange though. The story takes place in some fantasy world during a time that feels similar to our middle ages, but there are lots of incongruities that make it feel too modern. First, the names: the protagonist's name is Eddie Lacrosse, the king's name is Phil, there's a Sir Mike, etc. Second, the language and vocabulary are very modern. Third, his occupation. He's sort of a private investigator (similar to Dresden) and even has an office with a waiting area?! but, his weapon of choice is a sword. Fourth, everything else.
Overall it was a fun read though, with action, mystery, fantasy, and some humor.

And on a related note, I finished
Time Mends (Timber Wolves Trilogy, #2) by Tammy Blackwell :)

I like the series. I guess I'll finish it before moving on to something else.

Pepperpots I'm reading Dante's "Inferno". I'm reading it slowly but I like it. My book has notes at the end of each canto which helps :) I read a lot of manga too. Just finished "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller. I gave it 5*.

message 123: by Esther (last edited Mar 16, 2013 12:54AM) (new)

Esther (eshchory) I didn't have great reading year last year so this year I am only reading books I want to, not books I think I should.
Although the first book I finished in 2013 was Cutting for Stone Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and it was 'meh' I started it in 2012.
As a palatte cleanser I read a children's book Ties That Bind, Ties That Break Ties That Bind, Ties That Break by Lensey Namioka which was good for what it was.
At first I wasn't enjoying The Casual Vacancy The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling until I realised the weight of carrying round the hardback edition was affecting my reading pleasure. It ended up a 5 star with tears at the end.
Then I read Never Let Me Go Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and Twelve Twelve (The Danilov Quintet, #1) by Jasper Kent both of which had been waiting on my shelf for ages and both of which were well-written and interesting but just didn't do it for me.
So I have turned to Jasper Fforde and have reread The Eyre Affair The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next, #1) by Jasper Fforde and Lost in a Good Book Lost in a Good Book (Thursday Next, #2) by Jasper Fforde . Now I am in the middle of The Well of Lost Plots The Well of Lost Plots (Thursday Next #3) by Jasper Fforde which for complicated reasons I have only half-read previously.
They are all laugh out loud funny while making you think and Thursday Next is one of my favourite protagonists.

Those are a lot of books, Esther!
I think the choice to read only books you want is a really good one. Often, when you read a book because you should, it effects your reading experience.

I'm currently reading Carpe Corpus (The Morganville Vampires, #6) by Rachel Caine

I heard good things about Kelley Armstrong.

I started

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire , and book 12 of the Dresden Files Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher

Bian is always tired Just started The Library of Shadows by Mikkel Birkegaard and Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman . Slowly slogging through Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami

Kayla | 24 comments LOVE Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers trilogy. It's one of my favorites.

I also loved Beautiful Disaster. I pre-ordered Walking Disaster, which is coming out next month!

I just finished The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey and will probably start I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith next. I'm having a hard time deciding among that book, Shades of Earth (Across the Universe, #3) by Beth Revis and The Baker's Daughter by Sarah McCoy , but I'll definitely get to them all this month.

I loved the movie as well. But I saw it a long time ago, and I get flashbacks of it when I read parts of the book, suddenly going all "Oh, right! I remember this part from the movie!" which is kind of odd to me. I usually read books before watching their movie.

Thanks, Jon! I think you can read my mind :D I was just going to ask how I should add it :D

I finished all 3 the books and I'm wondering if there will be a 4th book coming out... The story doesn't seem to be finished yet.

Right now I'm reading The Big Four (Hercule Poirot, #5) by Agatha Christie
The perfect book on this rainy day! I'm from Belgium and I love our little Belgian friend with his little grey cells ;)

message 134: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon17) | 144 comments NP Natacha. I actually can read minds, but I don't use it for evil so don't worry :)

Christie is another UA* I haven't read yet but always wanted to. My dad used to say 'You haven't read Agatha Christie? I don't believe that'
Poirot seems like a great character.

*Uber-Author, a term we coined in this group!
Are there any UAs you always wanted to read?

message 135: by Natacha (new)

Natacha (tachaboekstagram) | 23 comments I'm happy to read that, because I have an evil mind ^_^

Christie is one of my favourite authors, I have all her books, but because I can't read an actual book anymore, I haven't read them in a long time anymore. Now I have an e-reader and I bought al her books in e-book and and am reading them again.

So I can say Christie is my UA. Are there any other UAs? Hmmm, let me think... let me think real hard... No... I love a lot of authors, but I can read the books of Christie a 100 times without getting bored, I don't have that with other authors. I usually read a book one time and that's enough for me. Agatha Christie on the other hand is like the first cup of coffee in the morning ;-)

Natacha (tachaboekstagram) | 23 comments Finished The Big Four (Hercule Poirot, #5) by Agatha Christie yesterday and loved every letter of it and started with Candle in the Darkness (Refiners Fire #1) by Lynn Austin and totally lovin' it so far!

I love historical fiction, I love the books of Lynn Austin and I love the movie 'Gone with the wind' and this book has a similar story (so far), so I'm looking forward to read the rest of the book later today and I can't wait to see what will happen in part II and III.

I have about 300 here in Goodreads, and about the same on my real shelves at home. And many more books I never bothered to put on my shelves but I know I want to read. If I actually marked all the books I wanted to read on my goodreads shelves, I'll have about 1800 ~wink~

message 147: by Natacha (new)

Natacha (tachaboekstagram) | 23 comments I have 1881 books I still have to read on my Kobo right now :-s But I have a period of 4 years in which I haven't read any books, so that is probably why I have so many books on my list :)

But I think I will have to remove some of them... I have done some calculating and if I read 200 books a year and don't add any books to my list anymore it will take me at least 10 year to read these books :-s And it is impossible for me not to add any more books, so, I'll better remove some of them if I will ever get to the end of my list :)

message 148: by Nitzan, A Certified Bookaholic (new)

Nitzan Schwarz (nitzanafterwords) | 671 comments Mod
On my Kobo I've got about... 500 books I haven't read. And on my Cloud reader another 500. And on GR 300, and home 200 or so... so, I guess I DO have as much as you do or so.
But yeah, do a screening of what you really think you will real and what not, because it is impossible not to add any more :)

message 149: by Natacha (new)
