Am I the only one who doesn't picture what characters look like?

Hannah I kind of do the same thing. As the story progresses I tend to picture the characters differently. I also tend to not imagine the appearance of characters the way their described. Some, I do, like Zane and others I didn't. Its just a weird thing about me.

Geena at the start of a book i picture them with faces but like you said they end up kind of faceless

Hannah I really hate movie/TV show adaptions. I hope for a day when you can watch the book you've read EXACTLY the way you pictured it in your head. I have faith in technology.

Dion yeah I do the same thing. I hate, hate HATE it when I see a movie and it's NOTHING like the faceless blob in my mind and then when I think about the book all I can see is the face of an actor and it pisses me off. The other thing I do is completely disregard the description of the character by the author. I generally can't imagine it. If you say: the main character has blue eyes, brown hair and a heart-shaped face, then I just imagine them through my eyes, that's about it! :D

R For me, I always imagine what they look like at the start of the book when the author describes them, but no, I don't match actors up to their faces. Most of the time, people usually give me names of actors and I actually go and google their faces to see whether they matched my mental description that I sorta form over time.

For me, when I read, it's sorta like a movie playing in my head. Just that usually, for me, reading is more appealing than a movie, if it's well-written. But one example that I really really hate the character to actor adaptation would be of Hunger Games' Peeta Mellark. I mean really, Josh Hutcherson?! I was a little disappointed, tbqh.

But I hope if they ever decide to do a film for this series, they don't choose people who look too off from Westerfeld's descriptions(:

hahah and yeah, Amandah pointed it out well, the cover for Pretties was pretty random XD

OMG i was the exact same way! My friends were all like: OMG JOSH HUTCHERSON <3 *sigh* and I was like: hell no, Peeta is NOT Josh Hutcherson!! SOO annoying.

RULE 1 for me: If you read the book; don't watch the movie. If you watch the movie; don't watch the book. When I was little I was obsessed with the Princess Diaries the movie and my mum tried to get me to read the book and I couldn't coz it was different from the movie.

TBH i don't like watching movies or T.V that much. When i do, my brain goes off into la-la land and most of the time I think about what is going to happen next in the book i'm reading... lol *grin*

Thatbooklover This is the only book that I can't imagine the characters. I suppose because It was NO sort of plot. I HATE THIS BOOK SOOOO MUCH!!!!!

Allison I picture them in my head as the author described them, but the more I read it, the more they change in my head... Like if the author said Black hair, brown eyes, and shirt. Toward the end, I might just picture them with brown hair brown eyes and really tall....haha :) so sometimes I get confused when half way through the book the author randomly throws out a description like "his blonde hair was blowing in the wind with his blue eyes sparkling" and I'm like "whaaaat? He has blue eyes and blonde hair?!?" Haha :)

Miranda Bahr I picture them with diferent faces since book 1, beggining of book 2, middle of book 2 and end of book 2.

It really annoyed me that I couldnt see them in my mind.>(

I actually do the the same thing and i totally thought i was the only one! Sometimes its because I'm too lazy to try and picture something, other times because i have a weird mental block; which is a good thing because then it makes me keep an open mind about what I'm reading.

There are definitely people who i picture more clearly than others, but most have blurry faces with defining characteristics, (EX; Hazel from the Heroes of Olympus series, i see her curly dark hair and gold eyes when i picture her, or I see Tris's blonde hair and her nose). Distinguishing features stand out, but other than that, i have a hard time wrapping my head around physical character descriptions... i prefer emotional and personality descriptions, i guess :P

Dion You know, tbh I didn't know tris was blonde until after I finished Divergent. Like, I definitely picture the characters but I have NO IDEA how. Like I can never picture the main character and the love interest always ends up looking the same but somehow...different. I don't know. To be honest, i think if a character from one of my books walked up to me in the street and said hi I wouldn't know who they were...ahahah :)

Sarah I kind of imagine how there eyes, mouth etc. looks like, but I can never get them to, you know, fit together. So if someone ask me how i think Eleanor's (from Eleanor and Park) hair would lokk like, I can describe it very detailed. But I can't tell wxactly how she looks like as a person!
Does thet make sense?? :-)

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall It varies depending on the book.... " Like their countenance changes as their character does" is a good note, that happens to me once in a while! In, say, Jane Austen I had a vague image of the characters when I thought of it, but like The Lord of the Rings I spent much time studying the pages to envision the charries!
