It's a great review, too, IMO! I hope you enjoy it, Janie.

I did Enjoy it very much Dustin. :)

I am curently going to read Bite. I love most of Laymon's books, but this one got a lot of mixed reviews so I have my reservations about starting it. But since Ihave 4 days before Carrion Comfort. I needed a fast read. So wish me luck.

Veronica (veraj121) | 328 comments I am still holding on with The Tommyknockers by Stephen King and A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth . The A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth is over 1,000 pages. But it so engaging.

I cant wait to start The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

Veronica I thought the Casual vacancy was a little odd when I read the description in the store. You will have to let us know what it is like.

message 55: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (veraj121) | 328 comments It seems interesting. I saw her on Nightline last week and she said she used some of her life experience. It's supposed to be about a town of people with real life experiences - depression, poverty, cutting, etc. And I think there is a sad ending. So, I am looking forward to reading it. I have it on my e-reader. I am just trying to finish up one of my books before I start Casual Vacancy

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments I am about to start Tomato Red by Daniel Woodrell. It is only about two hundred short pages, so I will hopefully have it done by the fifth. :)

Lee (leeshirk) | 203 comments I am reading Something Wicked This Way Comes for the SK Fans group read. I was able to get a copy of it and so far it isn't that bad. The writing style is different than what I am used to reading. Seems more like an epic poem than a novel. It is my first Bradbury book, and I am curious if his other works are like this as well?

Maybe that is more of a discussion for the other group though. LOL

I have not read anything from this Author. I dont have the book either so I decided to skip this one.

message 63: by Bojana (new)

Bojana (bpop) Bradbury is IMO a great author, and was an even greater man. Fahrenheit 451 is one of his most famous novels, but he also wrote a lot of awesome short stories. I'd recommend his work to anyone. And yes, I am reading Something wicked this way comes with the SK group. To get a sense of the kind of a man he was, I recommend watching this tribute video: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=EBtZjb...

Victor, I don't knock you for reading Twilight, I also liked the series. As I have stated in another thread, it is what you make it. I didn't go in expecting much, it was written for young adults and the author tried to do something different.

Hard core vampire fans tend to forget that the Cullens are portrayed as "sparkly" vampires, because that is the connection that the mind of a teenage girl makes. I personally see the Cullens as supernatural creatures, not vampires. The Cullens have one thing in common with vampires, only one. Every other aspect of their existence is totally different.

But I can't say too much more because if you are only on book 1 then I don't want to give anything away. I enjoyed the series, I have even read Breaking Dawn (the last book) three times, it is my favorite. I will probably read it again the beginning of next month since the 2nd part of the movie comes out then. LOL

The 5th Witch by Masterton or Bonemans Daughters by Ted Dekker

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments Right now I am reading...

Halloween Horrors Spine-tingling Stories for the Scariest Night of the Year by Richard Chizmar 11/22/63 by Stephen King American Vampire Vol. 2 by Scott Snyder Desktop Gargoyle Eyes Light Up! by Danielle Selber

Halloween Horrors I am obviously reading for the month of October. It's pretty good so far but I have yet to find a trully scary story in there.

11/22/63...well, I'm not that far into it yet but it's pretty damned good. Stephen King is the master. He just keeps getting better and better.

American Vampire Volume 2 does not disappoint. It's a very awesome series even though Stephen King left it.

Desktop Gargoyle. LOL...it's a little book on Gargoyle lore and it actually comes with a tiny Gargoyle that's eyes light up red! Everyone should have one of these. I keep it on every night while I'm reading. LOL.

I could not get into them Mindy. I read the first book to see what all the hoopla was and that was enough for me. Glad you are enjoying it.

Thinking about throwing in a quick read of Death of a Darklord by Laurell K. Hamilton after I finish Carrion Comfort, because I know I will be finished before end date lol. I have not heard much about this book and I am rather confused. On Good Reads it says Ravenloft #13 so it makes you think there is a whole series, yet there is not. When you look at on Amazon it says The Ravenloft Chronicle. What am I missing? Is it a part of D&D ravenloft? I highly doubt it.

really, by Laurell K Hamilton!?? i just thought she had the Anita Blake series and some others, not a whole other series... mmmm

Yea from Hamilton, but not a series from what I can tell. The book does sound interesting though. A girl discovers she has a strange talent of magic. but the world she lives in fears spellcraft. Justwish I could find out more about this. Maybe I will just go ahead and read it and see what happens.

AHA! I discoverd something in the book itself lol. It says Ravenloft the Covenent and below it lists 6 different books with 6 different Authors. Hamiltons is the first on the list.

And also found out that it does have to do with D&D the ravenloft side because one of the books is called "I Strahd, the Memoirs of a Vampire" Interesting. SO it is a series but by different authors. I will have to research this a bit more. Here are the books in the series (if it is a series)
Death of a Darklord
Vampire of the Mists
I, Strahd: The Memoirs of a Vampire
To Sleep with Evil
Tapestry of Dark Souls
Scholar of Decay

sounds promising. i like that idea of different authors, almost like the kid series the The 39 Clues Complete Collection... different authors, so the story doesn't get stale.

thanx Janie.

Well the ones listed are not even all that there is either. But they all deal with the realm called Ravenloft. I am very familiar with this because we used to play a card game called spellfire and Ravenloft was one of the realms in the game.

lol of course I am nerd. Doesn't society class people that like books as nerds? LOL The card game I actually learned about years ago. It derived from the old D&D game. You have realms in the game such as ravenloft, forgotten realms, dragonlance, etc. We have not really played it lately. The game has been discontinued and you can only really buy the decks/cards through Ebay now. But we have all of our decks, so if we ever choose to play again we can.
