Reading The Host, and yay it finally picked up for me. Now I can enjoy it. The whole premise of the book is awesome, I just hope that it keeps up this pace. I now look forward to the movie coming this spring.

Rachel the Book Harlot I'm currently reading a novella The Embattled Road. It's a prequel to an upcoming contemporary military romance series.

I read The Host a few years ago, Janie, and while it certainly had promise, I think that Meyer didn't fully utilize the story's potential. I wasn't impressed at all..

message 359: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (notrace) Currently reading Blood Sports. I am totally loving this book so far. It takes place not too far from where I live so the landmarks are all familiar, but thats not what makes it good. It is about the struggles of a young man and his family who live on the fringes of society, it reads like a gritty non-fiction. I can't wait to see where it is going. I hope to finish it tonight.

Veronica (veraj121) | 328 comments I started reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold The Lovely Bones. This book is the hardest book I ever read, emotionally. I am only on page 51 and I had to put it down. All I can say is I have a 13 year old daughter who goes back and forth to school by herself ( well, with a friend or two). This book makes me want to get a babysitter for her. smh

message 368: by Zara's Retreat (last edited Dec 14, 2012 06:11PM) (new)

Zara's Retreat I have three books on the go at the moment:

Fall of Giants (The Century Trilogy #1) by Ken Follett
The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham
Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler

I'm finding all three of these very interesting but for different reasons. Fall of Giants is an interesting historical novel so far (I'm only into the second chapter). The Midwich Cuckoos is an intriguing book. It draws you in to read further. I've the first chapter only but I'm looking forward to finishing it. Mein Kampf I find this book fascinating. It provides an insight into the man Hitler. So far I have discovered, that intellectually, he was a very brilliant man which, together with an number of other factors, conspired to come together and create the man that he became. Once again I am only on the second chapter so it's early days yet. I most likely will write a review of each of these books but we will see.

Just got a major library haul, so now I'm reading: Night Train to Lisbon, which has gotten great international reviews (translated from German); Ice: Portraits of Vanishing Glaciers, which has some astounding photos and is about climate change; and Dogfight: The 2012 Presidential Campaign in Verse. Can't wait to dive in!

Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier Ice Portraits of Vanishing Glaciers by James Balog Dogfight The 2012 Presidential Campaign in Verse by Calvin Trillin

Rachel the Book Harlot That's awesome, Terri! I actually watched an interview with Calvin Trillin on the Daily Show when he was promoting Dogfight The 2012 Presidential Campaign in Verse by Calvin Trillin . It was a really funny interview. The book looks good. :)

I am still reading The Host. Been kinda busy these days with Christmas coming up...WOOT. I had grandbaby this weekend so I did not get a whole lot read. Will try and read more today. It is actually a pretty decent read. I am quite enjoying it. People seem to be so down on Meyers Twilight that they dont have an open mind about this book. I am surprised how many people say it is trash when they have not even read it. Also trying to think about what to read to finish up December! Preferably nothing that I already have on my 2013 shelf. LOL

Hi, Janie!:)

I am glad to hear that you're liking The Host a bit more now. I also think that readers should keep an open mind and not judge it by the Twilight Saga. They're completely different. One has nothing to do with the other, IMO.. well, except that Meyer wrote them both. And one certainly should read it before labeling it as 'trash.'

Dustin I read it years ago and did not retain too much info from it. I will def be doing a reread on it though. Maybe use it for the A-Z challenge.

Right now I am reading Dark Corner. Should be a pretty good book. He is a new author for me.

I love buddy reads! LOL I dont have anymore till January so I am filling in the time with some books I have had for awhile. The one I am reading now Dark Corner, is by an Author who is new to me, which is always nice. So far the book is pretty good. I am learning about all residents of Mason's Corner, Mississippi. I hve looked at other books by him as well and marked a few for my tbr shelf. He has some great ratings!
