Dajinxed1 | 95 comments Is there a thread for e-book recommendations already or should we start one here? I read mostly on my reader and download a lot of the free e-books from smashwords and other such publishers.

Some I would recommend:
Demon's Fall by Karalynn Lee
Escape by Melissa Stevens
Nature of the Beast by Rebecca Goings
Neverland Romance by Genie D
Samantha and the Bear by Jay Greenstein

Madeline (scribeofvoid) | 8 comments I have to recommend The Emperor's Edge by Lindsay Buroker which is free through Amazon and, I think, Barnes & Noble as well. Ever since I read it I've been recommending it to everyone, whether or not they ask! But seriously. Read it.

Wendy Mejia Dark Predator

I would suggest any of Christine Feehan's books from her Dark Series. I have all but 3 books in the series and can't get enough. The only downside of reading all of them: you notice the characters have the similar personality. Still a great read if your just reading one.

Mary (beletseri) | 9 comments For eBooks I can't recommend getting them from the library enough. That's the main way I use my ereader and it's heaven. I've checked out Succubus Blues for this month and I'm going to read it on my ereader. It's free, you can do it from home, and they automatically delete off your ereader so no fees.

I live in LA so I check out through lapl.org colapl.org and pvld.org. The company is called overdrive and they administrate ebook lending for all the libraries in my area.

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments If anyone needs help with OverDrive please feel free to message me. Hell I'll even do over the phone support on it as long as it starts with a PM. I'm my library's Technology Services Librarian, so I'm working with people all the time to help them with it.

Couldn't agree more with the recommendation to use your local library to borrow ebooks via Overdrive. I've read stacks of books that way (on my laptop), and it's now the main reason that I 'find' a new author and put all their books on my 'buy' list.
Past few months I've added Laurie R. King, Catherine Asaro and Nalini Singh to the list (as well as Gail Carriger, but that was because of Veronica), I never would have read them if it hadn't been for library ebooks.

Amy | 58 comments you guys are lucky. As far as I can find there isn't a library any where near me that has invested in ebooks or just a kindle (or other ereader/tablet option) to barrow inside the building.

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments Amy, where are you located, I may be able to help you find one. And devices to be lent in a library are only useful for borrowing library ebook titles if they are a tablet/ereader tablet, and those only work b/c of apps (thank god there are apps now for the ereader tablets).

Amy | 58 comments I live near Dalton, Georgia. LaFayette Walker County Public Library is an hour drive (The closest I could find).

Deb F | 13 comments Amy, not sure if you have a PC/laptop/ereader of your own, but if you do, once you've joined a library with Overdrive, and installed the software, you can borrow everything online.
I found this one in Atlanta - http://www.afpls.org/central-library which appears to have Overdrive,

http://afpls.lib.overdrive.com/F63283....

which might not be TOO far?

Otherwise, if you DO have a local library, have a chat to them about whether they already have Overdrive, and if not, whether there's a plan to get it. They might be able to tell you whether there's a library closer to you which already has it.

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments Georgia has a state wide card program, so you should be able to get a card to a library that participates without going to far.

http://www.georgialibraries.org/lib/l... has some info about overall

http://gadd.lib.overdrive.com/ is the Georgia Public Library Service OverDrive Collection

List of libraries that take part in it:
http://gadd.lib.overdrive.com/7510BEE...

FAQ about GPLS
http://www.georgialibraries.org/publi...

You may also be able to contact them remotely and see about getting a card w/out visiting due to the distance. Or wait until you're swinging through a town that has a participating library.

I'm going to flat out say that OverDrive is bloody expensive, which is why rarely do you see individual libraries (unless they've got many branches so are basically a mini-consortium themselves) with OverDrive.

Amy | 58 comments Oh, I knew OverDrive was pricey. I also know a lot of our libraries are underfunded, so I was willing to wait until perhaps prices changed or the local one just ended up biting the bullet (which would make me sad because something would suffer for that). As, I would have to seriously drive out of my way for any of those locations besides the few in atl, but I rarely drive there. Maybe once or twice a year for a Brave's game or holiday day.

Though if it's state wide, and not based on county then it's worth the day trip, as I have a girl friend who'd probably just as thrilled as I am about that.

just sad that it has to cost libraries so much to lease the digital copies.

Jenn (wildflowerz) My library system uses Overdrive (I'm in Georgia too) but I've had the opposite experience from most of you. They seem to only have one copy of anything, even the popular books and the wait lists are so long that it takes forever to get anything. I've only gotten 4 or 5 books from them and it's been almost a year since I've started using it. The selection's pretty crappy too. It's WAY faster to get actual books from them.
