No, I read correspondence, media articles, government publications. I have a salaried position with a local legislator, in which I provide political and legal guidance "pro bono" (I get paid, but not by the constituent). It's a job I'm very passionate about :) and it's 9 to 5, so I get to read books in my down time!

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

Im reading a book with paper and letters i love it <3

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm listening to an audiobook of the confirmation hearing of Sonia Sotomayor (before she was confirmed as a Supreme Court justice in 2009) and I'm reading February by Lisa Moore.

message 56: by Tettey (new)

Tettey | 467 comments great. i think i remember something about her being given a hard time for saying she thought being a woman gave her a unique perspective on justice or something like that.
how are you liking it? or them

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm enjoying the audiobook very much. In my country (Canada) we don't hold confirmation hearings, so the comparison with the US experience is fascinating.

And February is just beautiful. It's a fictional account of the aftermath of a real-life disaster at sea.

message 58: by Tettey (new)

Tettey | 467 comments i'm glad you are liking them. i think i'm with the canada approach though. why should a person qualified for a job have to answer mainly unrelated questions about her politics to politicians. sounds to me like a needless show.
they say its really sad, february that is.

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

It's quite the circus, and the questions she was asked sometimes seemed very rude. I found that jarring.

February IS very sad, but I tend to like sad books (!) so I'm coping.

message 60: by Tettey (new)

Tettey | 467 comments yeah american politicians tend to take the 'representatives of the people' thing as a license to hassle virtually anybody over just about anything.
I myself don't do too well with sad books. i'm mainly an escapist reader even though i've been warned that cloud atlas which is what i'm reading gets sad in the end

I'm reading a book called Love Saves the Day by Gwen Cooper. Most of the chapters are a view point from the cat Prudence and I love it so far.

Yeah and as I have never spent a second of my life without at least one cat I know for a fact that Prudence's point of views are quite accurate :D
