Mark Kaye I have just finish playing Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. During Mass Effect 2 the starship they fly in, The Normandy is refitted, and called Normandy II. One of the upgrades is EDI a VI (Vertual Intelligence) life form, Joker AKA Jeff developes a love, hate relationship with EDI, however EDI at the point in the trilogy is just a holographic image.

In Mass Effect 3 things change and EDI aquires an android body, and of course she is gorgeous. She continues to assist Joker in piloting the Normandy II but now she has a phyisical body, and Joker can't keep his eyes off her.

Over the course of ME3 EDI speeks to your Character, Commander Shepard, about this and after a software glitch (she developes feeling for Joker) she asks about a possible relationship between herself EDI and Joker. The game continues through and you get the impresion that their love for each other grows, and they become phyisical, EG sex. Joker tell Commander shepard that he loves EDI, and like wise with EDI, she explains to Commander shepard that though she loves Joker, she also asks how this can be, as she is just ultimatley a computer program.

So with out going any further and spoiling the Game for people, I just wondered are there any books out there that have any of this content. Human and android love affair, with or without sexual content.

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments The first book that comes to mind for me isn't quite what your looking for, its Android on Android romance as its a post-humanity novel, with the protagonist an Android that was built to be a sex-bot.

If that still might be interest to you it is Saturn's Children by Charles Stross.

Semi-parallel are some of Anne McCaffrey's Ship Who Sang series, which has brain/brawn ships where the "brain" is a human who was misborn in some way and literally cannot survive outside of her metal housing and is the ships AI and the "brawn" is her human captain.

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments Some of Heinlein's novels with Lazarus Long skirt close to that, but in that case it involves cloning technology/test tube bodies and the merging of an AI into a flesh body. However before that happens there is a love interest between machine and man.

Michael | 12 comments A good one to check out might be Sunrise Alley available for free as a Baen ebook
http://www.baenebooks.com/p-405-sunri...
There is a sequel as well which I haven't read yet.

Briana (breemonkey) | 11 comments Check out Cinder by Marissa Meyer. It's YA and a pretty quick read, but I really enjoyed it. A little more cyborg versus full android, but still very enjoyable.

I no of several others but...Son of a monkey!!!!! I have two covers that go with stories that are human/android love in my mind and I can't put a title or author to them if you put a gun to my head. Damn it!!!

I'm pretty sure the first name of the author is Tamara, but I can't remember anything else...GAH!!!

I will search my library tonight and see if I can find them.

But I agree with Tegan, check out Heinlein's Time Enough For Love. Truly one of my favorite novels and one of the subplots is an AI that falls for Lazarus Long. It's very heartwarming while still making you think.

Jute | 238 comments I know that you are looking for androids, but most of what I see is Cyborg.

Laurann Dohner Has a series of cyborg erotica. But be warned they certainly aren't for all. Mostly just sex strung together with a weak plot.

Zero Factor is a novella with cyborgs

Eve Langlais another erotica author has a series with Cyborgs. It too is another one of those books with lots of sex and little plot. Also be warned because there is rape.

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments So... it'd take some going through, but it might be worth looking through at least the end of these lists (organized by year of publication):

Kelly Fitzgerald | 1 comments One of my all time favorite books is He, She, and It by Marge Piercy, there is a very compelling relationship between a human being and an android that drives the story and asks all the interesting questions about what it means to be human. I highly recommend it!He, She and It

Marsha (queenboadicea) | 48 comments Android Karenina? It came out in 2010, I believe.

If you like manga there is Absolute Boyfriend.

message 13: by Mai (new)

Mai | 1 comments My absolute favorite is Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee, which may be the Tamara reference in another reply above. It got a reprint a while back and is available on Amazon.

Kelaine | 31 comments I read Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee as a young teenager and the book rocked my world. I still dream about the apartment. Wish I still owned my beat up copy. I look for it in used bookstores still...

I thoroughly enjoyed Android Karenina. More than Anna Karenina in fact. But definitely a guilty pleasure.

I've been recommended the following but they are on the TBR list so I don't know if they are decent - yet:
Keeping It Real
Games of Command
The Clockwork Man

I remember that book! I still have some of those old paperbacks in my library, though I know The Silver Metal Lover isn't among them. :( Maybe I could find it again in a store like the Strand.

There's also Anima if you like gay man-on-man erotic manga. This is one of my personal favorites.

message 17: by Mike (new)

Mike | 34 comments @Saranar Reminds me of the conversation between Shepard and EDI after the VR mission:
And just like that, the magic is gone.
Did you just say what i think you said?
No.
And to think EDI was almost a romance option. :^D

Closest i can come up with is Hyperion, which has a light scene.

Miranda | 8 comments I'm going to join in with The Silver Metal Lover, and it would be an interesting conversation starter to contrast it with the follow-up Metallic Love--so many reversals, I for one was a little disapointed with some plot reversals.
Also, sort of a steampunk android fantasy The Alchemy of Stonewhich I found really interesting.

message 19: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments Reading 'He,She, and It' and I am loving it. Interesting parallel/nested storytelling. Not highly smutty if that is what you're looking for, but is one of those speculative sci fi books with embedded social commentary I love.

message 20: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (nerdyspinster) | 255 comments The only thing I can think of even remotely close to an android/human love affair is this erotica comic Chester 5000 XYV.

message 21: by Destructo (new)

Destructo The Mad | 5 comments The Fractal Prince, but the relationships are Human/AI rather than Human/Android. Also, I don't think you'd call it a romance. More of a 'post-singularity heist story'.

message 22: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) My favorite erotica writer, Charlotte Stein, recently said that she is writing about an android. I will have to remember to post back here when it comes out!

Sort of off topic, but if you haven't read her before and are curious, she has some hot and fun sci-fi/PNR/zombie-apocalypse-menage smut. But, we're talking blushing-while-reading-on-the-bus dirty.

The Horizon by Charlotte Stein Raw Heat by Charlotte Stein Reawakening (Forever Dead, #1) by Charlotte Stein

Oh cool, I will look into the book about the android. thanks

Mark Kaye Thanks for all the suggestions, please keep them coming.

message 25: by Bitchie (new)

Bitchie (matron) Pleasure 2035 might fit the bill, but bear in mind it is VERY crazy. The female lead has all her old memories downloaded into her nipple, which she wears on a chain around her neck.
