Mike Hi, I'm Mike, new to the group and have only been with Goodreads for about 2 months. I've never quite understood it but for my whole reading life I take spells where I am a voracious reader for 6 or 8 months, just about anything and everything I can get my hands on, then I just stop for the next 6 or 8 months. Right now I'm in one of my voracious stages!

I seem to be drawn more towards the "classic" detective type of novels. I like oddball characters with a touch of humor and am a particular fan of Elmore Leonard, Lawrence Block, Donald E. Westlake and all types of short stories.

Not sure how active I'll be in discussions but I'm looking forward to some great, good and debatable recommendations from members of the group.

aprilla Hi Mike :)
I tend to read/listen pretty constantly but I do have spells where I take a break from the internet... not sure if I just get overloaded or if it's because other things get in the way - but - GR is always here and I always feel I can just jump back into the discussions. Nice place :)

You might enjoy David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series if you like odd humour. I find myself getting a chuckle from them.

Bill Welcome to the group, Mike. Be as active as you feel, just enjoy yourself. Have you read any Carl Hiassen mysteries. He's got quirky oddball characters and neat stories.

Terry Ambrose Hi Mike, welcome to the group. This is a good place to find new authors and make new friends. I, too, like Lawrence Block, especially his Bernie Rhodenbar series. Just picked up an old Westlake book the other day and can't wait until I get some spare time to actually read something "for fun." (I do reviews, so I'm almost always reading for one of those.)

If you like quirky characters in a mystery, you might enjoy Photo Finish. Photo Finish by Terry Ambrose
Welcome!
Terry

Steve Goble Hello. I am Steve. I read all sorts of stuff, but I have a fondness for crime fiction. I read hard-boiled and cerebrals, with a tendency toward the good old stuff. I am hoping to discover some new writers in this group.

I have published some small press fantasy, horror and science fiction, and am working on a historical crime novel at the moment.

Authors I enjoy include Arthur Conan Doyle, Poe, John D. MacDonald, Rex Stout, Ellery Queen, Ross MacDonald, Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler.

Suzy Taylor | 16 comments Hi, I just joined, and so far, I really like this website. I am looking forward to meeting new people who are interested in the same kinds of books as I am, and I've already looked in on some interesting discussions. It's great for avid readers such as myself to find a great place to go without having to put on make-up LOL.
