Neil | 165 comments And it is a lot less sucky than I thought it might be. Rejoice!

Agrajag | 56 comments Not available legally in the US, is it? Thanks for the alert. I wasn't even aware of it.

Rasnac | 336 comments I'm downloading the episode as we speak. My excitement is beyond words. Oh, smeg!!! :DDD

Tim | 380 comments Loved the show, but something seemed a bit odd with the visual effects. Not quite sure what it was - too clean maybe, but something about them jarred. Overall, it was very good, and definitely on form from the acting and comedy aspects.

Thurman (thurmanj) | 146 comments You know they look almost the same. I know its been 24 years since it first started but they look so young.

And this was one of the better episodes.

That is what I appreciated most about the new series. It was almost like I was catching up one of the reruns on BBC entertainment. The unique tone and humour of the show were preserved perfectly. Most shows fail to recreate the perfect formula that make their shows unique after a loong hiatus; but Red Dwarf nailed it.

I love how this is a compliment. My friends and I have been debating the return of the 'laugh track' or canned laughter, it makes it pantomime-y but it does seem to work.

I was just at the "The Entertainment and Media Show" today with the cast (minus Danny John-Jules) doing a talk and they seemed genuinely excited and pleased with the quality of the new series. I know at least some of that will be them trying to promote the show but hearing that and after seeing the first episode I am a lot more confident the series will be good.

Much more confident then I was when they announced it after the 'Back to Earth' stuff that wasn't exactly great.

I also love Red Dwarf. I didn't know there was a new series until I saw it on my favourite BT site.

Obviously I downloaded and watched it that day. :-)

Indeed. The moose episode last week made me crack up. I still have the same sense of humour I had when I was a student- hence our comedy DVD list:)
Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Yes Prime Minister, Monty Python, Allo Allo, Porridge.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 96 comments The second episode wasn't quite as good as the first, but it still had some good laughs and made the most of its Lister is his own father conceit in true Red Dwarf fashion.

message 17: by Eliste (new)

Eliste | 31 comments Have to say I've been loving this- much more than the 3 part reunion they did a while ago.

I think the great thing is they haven't messed with the formula at all. The characters are the same and brilliant, the dialogue is snappy, there's no exposition, and the set is still exactly what you remember. Classic comedy.

It really feels like they're just taping some pre-written episodes from back in the day rather than trying to shoehorn it into today's world. And I think that's perfect.

Tamahome | 7222 comments Americans can't watch this right?

message 19: by B.A. (new)

B.A. Schulte | 5 comments That is amazing news. Hopefully it will be legally available in the US soon.

message 20: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7222 comments At least IT Crowd is on IFC here.

message 21: by Tim (new)

Tim | 380 comments I particularly liked the chinese whispers game with the vending mashines. That really evoked the feel of some of the early series (which I personally thought were funnier than the later series, even if the later ones were slicker)

message 22: by Sonic (new)

Sonic Alpha (sonicalpha) | 21 comments After the complete let down of last season ("Back to Earth"), this season has been a breath of fresh air so far.

Back on form too, imo.

Try as I might, I can't seem to stream a legal version of Star Trek in the UK. So having Red Dwarf makes up for it, if only slightly!
