Author:L.J. Smith

My rating: 4 stars
Dates reading: 10/3-10/4

My thoughts

I'm guilty! I didn't know for this book until the series! ( forgive me lord) So, I decided to read the first book and again the same as the "Vampire Diaries" IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THE SERIES! But, I'm not here to talk about the series , I'm here to review the book.

Once again, I fell in love with Smith's writing. I strongly believe she's the best YA writer. "The Secret Circle" is so much better than "The Vampire Diaries"! Okay, here it goes.!

The characters were well-formed, completed, interesting and just like any teenager, some were bullies (like Faye) and some the high-school queens (like Diana). It was like watching a movie and this is one of the reasons I love L.J Smith's books.

The story was vivid, breathtaking and with some twists. Here we are, with a well-written book, excellent grammar and vocabulary, the story "was talking by itself". Every chapter sent shivers down my spine; I was anxious for the ending, I kept reading it until dawn.

The ending... uhhhhhh! I think this first book should be longer! But, this is why there's a second and a third and fourth book... etc:P

Anyways, maybe it was too YA for me but I'm going to read the next books and I have a feeling they will get their 5 stars.!

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 123 comments I've loved this series ever since I was a kid, and continue to re-read it every once in a while. I'm actually not pleased that they have started ghost writing sequels to this trilogy, the ending in #3 was just fine and dandy. But I LOVE Smith's work when it was actually her writing.

I agree with you. I'm currently reading "The Captive".. What is going on with this ghost writer, anyway? How did she write those books? Has anyone read them? What did Smith say? And of course, her writing is ideal for YA novels. I think she's my favorite author of YA paranormal novels.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 123 comments As far as I know, Smith actually wrote the original Vampire Diaries trilogy (although she was basically told to write it, so it was more 'spewed' out rather than her inspiration that created it) and she wrote the original Secret Circle trilogy. There was something to do with a contract with the publisher and what-not, I don't know details but it apparently wasn't pretty. All the continuation of the VD was ghost written under her name, as is Book 4 and beyond in the Secret Circle.

Sophia Nicolopoulos (augustineofelsinore) | 37 comments Omg I didn't know about the VD! So, it's actually a trilogy? This is innapropriate , using the author's name and stories.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 123 comments The publisher 'controls' the rights on that series, I believe, due to the contract. But yes, when I was younger and first read the series- in their original first released paperback it said on the first three books, "A Trilogy"

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 123 comments then they released a 4th book, which I hated, at the time. It nearly ruined the series entirely for me. I loved them back in the day, but re-reading VD now it's not that fabulous for the adult 'me' reader

hahahah, well I think "The Secret Circle" is more interesting and trilling than the VD... I've read the first two books of the VD but I've watched the show, too and I didn't like them... And I believe the show is boring and it frustrated me, seeing that nothing is alike the books....

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 123 comments I still enjoy reading the Secret Circle, though. And I never watched the shows based on either series, yet. I was too frustrated at how much different they were.

Yes, I noticed that , too. I believe when you create a show based on books , you should follow them exactly...:/
