Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments I just got a creepy-ish friend request and I thought I'd put out a heads up. It was from some guy named Gholam-reza Azari(Ph.D.). He has a "normal" looking profile except his personal discription reads like an over the top, use too many big words and titles to impress someone resume. He's supposed to be some Communications expert.

The creepy part is the note he included in the friend request:
"Welcom to my heart!"

eeewwww! No! Gross! Whats the deal. And if he really had a PhD in Communications or whatever you would think he'd KNOW that is not the way to open a conversation with a woman you don't know!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Yeah, I've had some creepy friends requests on here as of late too - I know there was a thread a while ago that Meg started. Don't know where it went! I just "ignore" them and if they bother me more than twice, I report them to goodreads! (That's only happened once).

Thank you for the heads up - this is a bit creepier than most!

maybe hes a heart doctor ;)

message 5: by Holli (last edited Feb 12, 2009 01:31PM) (new)

Holli I got the same request Roxy....creepy huh?

I ignore the weirdo people and if they come back around again I block them. I've had one guy try 5 or 6 times now....I think his name is Daniel and he keeps trying to give me a free copy of his book.

message 6: by Dolly (new)

Dolly (dollya) That is why my stuff is set to private except for friends :) That is creepy though.

message 7: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) I've gotten quite a few creepy requests lately. I've had to block people that won't give up after I ignore them three times!! I finally made my account private and that is helping.

message 8: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) I just found an area on my account that allowed me to ask a challenge question. It used to be that a challenge question had to have an answer, but I didn't want to do that. Now, anyone who wants to be my friend just has to say why. I'm hoping that will take care of the weird ones. I'm not averse to dropping "friends" who send out a ton of events or recommendations that have nothing to do with my interests either.

message 9: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments I definitly did hit ignore....though after I looked at his profile to try to figure out what his deal is.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Tera, LOL!

Holli, Daniel has done the same to me - I've ignored him twice - next time he's blocked & reported!

message 11: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah7299) | 303 comments I have to ignore a lot of requests too...especially if they only have a few books on their list & a million friends.

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 40 comments I don't think I've gotten one from Daniel, but I've received a couple of other wierd ones. I usually just laugh and hit ignore - as my avatar is a pic of my two daughters and some friend requests I get are from teenage boys!

message 13: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments Teri, that occured to be because of my obvious beauty (I hope you can hear the sarcasm here) but my avitar is of a pre-teen girl with a blackeye! (Normal Rockwell painting, actually) yuk.

message 14: by Kate (new)

Kate | 106 comments I think this is a good issue to talk about. I have been friended by trying to add me to a string girls who are his friends on Good Reads, trying to get me to buy his/her book or people who come up with inane discussion boards (the I Love Taco Bell Group). Personally, I have been doing more checking into who I friend and I now ignore most requests (except from Chicks, of course!).

message 15: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Hickman (bkread2) | 233 comments I get more weird requests on MySpace than here. I do get sometimes the younger crowd because I do read some books that border Teen/College age to younger adults like the PC Cast series,Twilight & Harry Potter. But actually the first teen on my list is actually from my Jane Austen group. Since I will actually speak to her some teen friends have requested the same. So other than those few teens and my bff's son most are from either work, old school friends and a few from this sight. Most authors on my friends list are authors I chose first. I beleive Daniel is on my list but I never got anything creepy.

I NEVER get creepy friend requests! I suppose I should be grateful rather than wondering why the creepies don't notice me. I think there is something wrong with me for wondering that. Poor creepies too bad they couldnt all find each other and be happy in their creepy world.

message 17: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments Tera, I've only had a very small handful, maybe three. I know there have been other threads about these and have read others tales of getting creey requests a lot. And I too wondered, how come I don't get a lot of creepy requests?

message 18: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments LOL, Teri! What? You mean guys won't make passes at girls who could kick their asses?

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Roxy, some guys think it's hot knowing a girl could kick their ass so be careful, lol!
