Gail Huh. This is the 100 best, is it, according to BBC? Well, it's an interesting set of choices. Are they in any order or just random?

I just read Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone and found it a page-turner and pretty good, but I don't know that I'd put it on a top 100 list, let alone all the other Rowling titles listed. And apologies to those who love Coehlo, but I probably wouldn't have included it on this list.

Some new titles too. I too have never read Pratchett and would appreciate any advice on where to start with his work. I've read and remember a bit more than a third of these, most of which I enjoyed. The best film adaptation of any of these works that I've seen has been "Brideshead Revisited"--that is, the original television film series with Anthony Andrews, produced by the BBC and WGBH, the Boston PBS station. It's a remarkable film, completely true to the original and absolutely fascinating. Brideshead would probably be my favorite book on this list.

Cynthia jennifer and I were discussing this list (and the fact that like 40 percent of the titles are by Pratchett!) and we realized something obvious which is that this is a British list, and so is skewed.
I wonder if there is some way on Goodreads for us to get people to vote for their 100 favorite (from an American pov) titles? I mean, I dont necessarily love Twain and Melville and James but... I was a little surprised not to see a single title by any of them or any other American classic authors. Also... no Trollope!
And yes, I would say def these are in order, with 1 as best.

Gail I'd love it: think of the controversies we could get into! Try emailing that nice young man who runs this site for some info--surely there's a way to do this.

And I agree: how can you have a British 100 with no Trollope? Heresy, I say.
