Like the Uglies series for example, I've read the first book on my kindle and now I don't know whether to buy the whole set in books or not - only dilemna for me really (first world problems :p) I'd suggest some of the free books for kindle to start off with, some of them are surprisingly good if I'm honest!
(I wasn't sure if I could start a topic, but yay :D)

I have a Kindle too, it was given to me, but I've literally never even turned it on.
but I've been noticing a lot of links lately saying certain ebooks are free on amazon....I may need to learn how to turn this thing on this weekend and see what it's all about.
thank you Katie, you're helping me make that decision :D

Reading on a device is more convenient for me since I usually read more than one book, so it's hard to carry 2 or 3 paperbacks around. But physical books look nice on bookshelves :)
And Katie, it's ok to start a new topic. In fact, I always encourage everyone to start one :)

One really good benefit of the e-book is that I can change the size of the font. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be and that helps a lot. I also love that I can read in the car or at night at a football game or camping or whatever. It's very convenient.

@Vicki ~ Yes I agree. E-books are more convenient. I love reading at night, sometimes until 1 in the morning, so reading e-books allows me to switch to night mode. It's easier and lighter than physical books :)

I love browsing through my collection too :) Love the pretty covers :D

Elizabeth: Is the Kindle Fire good, looks a little too flashy for my likings but I'd love to hear what you think :)

I've just done a little bit of research around my library and found I can do this. Oh my gosh, so excited :D I didn't realise this was possible till yesterday!!
I have a nook touch but I rarely ever read on it because I am a huge on checking books out from the library. But if I do buy books I do get them on my nook which means that I have a ton of books on my nook that I have yet to read. I don't really regret getting the nook though because I don't have room to store books and I am trying to get rid of the books that I won't read again or buy them in digital so that my books don't take up so much of my limited space.

Yes, e-readers definitely have the advantage of storing lots of books in one little package. I'm running out of space myself with books/games/dvds taking up all my storage space!

Merryn: It's really easy to get books, you just link your kindle up to your wifi and amazon account and just buy it like you buy anything on amazon but it goes straight to your kindle instead!

Of course it will never be able to replace the "real" books and that's why I just use it to read all my YA books or non-serial books... all my fantasy series etc have to be in my bookshelf in physical form ^^

I have a Kindle 4. I was a little annoyed to see they came out with the paperwhite because I wanted a backlit e-reader with an awesome battery life but still, love my kindle even if at night I have to use my light ;)

Thank you! My dad isn't too good with technology so I will have to show him how to actually buy books. He normally just downloads all the free books.

Oh I try and find good interesting free books, I need to find more websites that list the free ones. The free classic books aren't really my style really.

Charles Dickens is my favorite author from the good ol' day

The kindle is very light and I can carry it easily everywhere instead of carrying 2-3 paperbacks.
I agree that actual books look better on the shelf, so I do by them whenever I can, but I mostly read eBooks.

Sapir: That's great, especially if it helps you to read more :) so much easier when it does come to travelling.

Really? Do you like Great Expectations? I love that one!

I love it too :D Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities are so my favorite :)

That's exactly how I feel about my Nook Color. I got it last Christmas and it was one of the best presents I've ever received. I do love my book collection however, so when I find a book or a series of books I like, I'll buy it for my collection. Doing it that way also helps me keep a handle on how large my collection gets. Now, if I buy a hard copy, its going to be a favorite book worth having.

I used to feel the same way. Ebooks were not what I normally read before. But now since the space I usually put the books is getting smaller, I switch to ebooks and I like it a lot now.

Basically, have any of you have read on the iPad that also have (or had) a nook/kindle/e-ink reader? Because if it's not as good as a kindle I'll probably just keep both honestly...

A couple of years ago my uncle got a kindle and I absolutely slated him for getting it as I couldn't get my head around it. I've always loved having a physical book in my hands. Last year, however, I kept seeing them advertised on amazon and I had a really weird urge to get one so I went and bought one on a whim and it was most definitely one of the best decisions I have made and got me back into reading.
I actually read through my books faster on the kindle which is a little weird, but it's just so lightweight and easy to carry around and you can get so many good deals on books. I still love physical copies of books, however, won't switch me over completely anytime soon :)
