Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments Reading in March for April Discussion.

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments I just finished this yesterday - read the 30th aniversary edition which has some intereesting "bonus material"

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I read this book last year and loved it. I may have to check it out from the library again to refresh my memory, but it was such a delight, I should really just buy and keep a copy for my collection.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Read it a few years ago.

message 5: by Marc (new)

Marc (authorguy) | 393 comments I read the Good Parts version a while back.

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I read it last year.

message 7: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann (leslieann) | 224 comments I read it about 10 years ago, saw the movie, enjoyed both, but don't plan on re-reading it. I've got too little time to re-read things.

Melissa (mkloempken) I re-read this book a couple years ago.

Eric (songwind) I have read this book several times, and will probably re-read it before the discussion in April. It's a really fun book.

Megan Ohh, this book always makes me smile, and not just because it's incredibly funny. I got it from my library three or four years ago and I accidently dropped it in a bucket of water, twice. So now I have my own extremely wrinkled copy. I think I'll reread it since it's been a while and it's one of my favorites.

Robert (bigbobbiek) I read this quite some time ago, but I can always dust it off the shelf!

Sandi (sandikal) I finished it last night. I just skipped the "Buttercup's Baby" part.

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments Sandi wrote: "I finished it last night. I just skipped the "Buttercup's Baby" part."

Good Call Sandi - that was terrible ;-( Ah well the "real" book is great I'm hoping he doesn't finish the sequel if Chapter 1 is any indication.

Melissa (mkloempken) I think we are safe from a sequel. It has been such a long time since the original Princess Bride was published that a sequel now would be a little strange.

Harrison Just finished it. I absolutely LOVED the book, maybe even more than the movie. I feel that I really liked william goldmans voice in it during the annotations and intro. I too skipped buttercups baby

Don't be too sure about that. Chalker waited a good many years before doing a sequel to the stellar Well of Souls series. I considered that to be such a perfect series I never read any of them. And Gordon R. Dickson started doing sequels to The Dragon and the George many years after it came out. Nothing stops a publisher from milking a viable franchise, certainly not good taste.

Manal (manals) Hi, I read this one years ago & still remember & love it! (Not Buttercup's Baby - I didn't buy that edition). The book was supposed to be a gift for someone, but I ended up reading & enjoying it so much I kept it and bought her another newer & cleaner copy :-) i loved the movie (which I saw first) which is why I got the book as soon as I hear it was the original material. I can't wait for this discussion because I thought there was a streak of hard realism runng through it.

message 18: by Jane (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (jane_jones) I too read it years ago and absolutely adored it. I didn't have the Butercup's Baby part -- The movie of course is wonderful - one of the best book to movie adaptations there are. April will be a great discussion month - two great books to talk about - I can't wait!!

message 19: by N.A. (new)

N.A. Sharpe I have read it and of course have seen the movie. Classic! :)

message 20: by Dame (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dame I have read it, enjoyed it.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I just finished this tonight and I loved it. Really fun and exciting!

Bradley I have read this book.. but I must say I enjoyed the movie much more. =)

Witch (nozomiviridae) | 8 comments I read it a year ago. I pretend "Buttercup's Baby" doesn't exist, with the epilogue to the seventh Harry Potter book.

Bradley Buttercup's Baby? Eh? That's weird. =)

Witch (nozomiviridae) | 8 comments It's the short first chapter of the "sequal" in updated copies of the book. It's terrible. Don't read it.

Bradley Lol, my copy had the picture of the movie couple on front. Sounds like a desperate attempt to cash in on Harry Potter to me. =)

Christina Read it. Loved it. Every time.

I agree Buttercup's baby is horrifically bad.

Michel B. (michelbonnell) Just finished it. Am a bit "scared" (tongue-in-cheekish) to say that I'm not ga-ga about it. Although it was a page turner to be sure and quite unorthodox. I am worried that I'll be the only one that's not madly crazy about it - although I'm somewhat heartened by a few readers' thoughts on Buttercup's Baby....

Looking forward to the discussion.

Melissa (mkloempken) Don't worry about being "madly crazy" about the book. I think the whole cult classic idea started with the movie, since so many of the lines are easily quotable. I personally enjoyed the book more, but have only read it a couple of times.

LOL. You've only read it a couple of times! That's exactly what I meant. Ahhh! I'm doomed.

message 32: by Jane (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (jane_jones) I finished up and am all ready for the discussion!

I've also read Crown Conspiracy a few months ago - it is a fast read and I enjoyed it a lot so I might re-read it.

mlady_rebecca Reading as we speak.

message 34: by Ena (new) - rated it 2 stars

Ena (enantoiel) Just finished the book. I've yet to see the movie. Sadly, "Abridged" trick didn't work for me and contrast between humorous storytelling and seriousness of action and events put a barrier between me and book. I enjoyed reading it half of the time nevertheless.

message 35: by John (new) - rated it 3 stars

John Beachem | 373 comments Read it many years ago. I recall it well enough I should be able to contribute at least an occasional "Oh yeah! I remember that!" to the discussion.

message 36: by Ally (new)

Ally (younggeekylibrarian) Just bought it - but given that spring break is next week I either may or may not get it read, lol!

Derek I read the book years ago, but have seen the movie several times. How hard should I search for my copy? Is there a ton of discrepancy between the two?

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments They are both very similar - I think you will be fine. IMHO.

JG (Introverted Reader) I've read it, but I like the movie better. They're definitely very similar, but there's just something about the movie...

Great casting!! That is one of the things for me that made the movie so great!

Martha (tilla) | 194 comments I've read it three or four times since I saw the movie (about 5 times). Love both.

☺Caleb☻ Sanders (killerkittyklaws) Yeah the movie was great I got the 2 disc edition from walmart for 14 dollars that came with the book I was basically raised on the movie and I dont think it gets old you know the book confuses me because I dont know if what the guy says is true it seemed just to modern too be written that long ago and I think they made up the part about all the pages being taken out it just doesnt seem that likley to me...but I dont know I may just be totally ignorant.....
