Hi Kaska!

Glad you found the thread! What happened to the kindling and craft forum? Is it still going? Last time I logged on it seemed more kindly than crafy, but then I my account was locked because I hadn't posted in some time. I find it hard to keep up with too many forums anyway.

I've never worked out how to add photos to posts, but I tend to upload them to group photos then post a link here.

I can understand you rebelling from the bedspread, Pat - I find that if I spend too long on something I get fed up with it. I really need to get back to the crochet, we have a new grandson due any day now - but I did so much in the autumn that I haven't been able to face it much lately! Got a car seat blanket to finish.

Wow - you are busy, Kaska! All sounds very complicated! I really must learn to knit - but suspect fair isle will be out of my reach!

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments I'm now into the braiding, too! Bought the square plate and the round disc and a book and am fiddling away. An alternative to knitting for flights? Surely airport security can't object to rubbery flat things with grooves on the sides?

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments It is fun the braiding isn't it? I have made a keyring today, just need to add a bead to finish it.

message 613: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments I used to work in a public library where all the women borrowed Catherine Cookson and all the men borrowed sheet metal working books, of which we had an unusually large number, I always thought, for a small suburban branch library. So who's to say I haven't already built my own? A bit of pewter casting for the fiddly bits, knit the upholstery, braid the seatbelts and I'm off!

message 614: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments When I started cardmaking, I used to make decoupage cards using the little foam squares. I was always finding the little squares all over the house. I've not used them for a while (I've graduated to using silicon glue) but now since if been beading I keep finding seed beads everywhere. Last night I found two in the bed. I must be like the princess in the fairy story.

Clare | 3 comments hi everyone. just found this thread. I wish I could knit but just get myself in knots!!! I enjoy cross stitch am just waiting for a star wads pattern to arrive so I can make it for my 10 year old nephew who was very impressed with his cross stitch xmas card. I also enjoy scrapbooking, such a brill way to show off photos instead of having them tucked in a box or on my computer.

message 618: by [deleted user] (new)

I did do a little cross stitch when I was younger - I found it very relaxing and therapeutic! Haven't done any for years though..

Pat () | -245 comments Sounds great Karen. It's good to try something different.

Jud how are you getting on with your knitting?

message 621: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have finished the back of the dress and only the front left to finish then something to do with the shoulders. I haven't done much of it since Christmas. I picked it up for the first time a couple of nights ago.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments While I was away I made an heirloom garter for my neice to wear at her wedding.
I am looking to buy or make a fancy pinafore/apron for my gt.neice(1yr old) to wear to protect her dress at the wedding. I have looked on both Etsy and Pinterest with no luck. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Here's a link to them:-

I'd like to have a go at that one day.

There haven't been any free craft books for a few days now (not that have been highlighted by the emails that I get, anyway...)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Just looked at the 'Greeting card Writings' one... her 'blurb' is not the best of adverts. Makes English sound like a foreign language.

message 637: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Just joined a workshop doing native American beadwork - it's a charitable thing for an art installation called 'Walking with our Sisters'. It's tricky but addictive! We're making vamps (the top bits of shoes - well, I didn't know and had to look it up!). Some of the ones already done are fantastic!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm nearly finished my knitting! I've done the front and I've done one shoulder. Just one more to go and something else (I'm not sure where it fits in to the dress)

message 641: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Yay! Well done Jud!
I have picked up a cross stitch again for the first time in years! I am loving it. Will post piccies when finished and when the recipient has received it (it is a gift for someone). I have my next one lined up afterward as well as my cousin wants a baby sampler for her, as yet unborn, baby's room!
I go between cross stitching and scrapbooking. I love them both and always forget how much until I pick one or the other up again!

message 642: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Great news Jud!
I am trying to motivate myself to pick up my cross stitch again Emma. I have been asked to do a baby and a wedding sampler.
I have almost finished the pinafore for my gt.niece. I found some lovely irish linen and made a heart shaped bib and very full skirt. The underside of the band is lined with the same midnight blue as the bridesmaid dresses so when the bow is tied it will be seen. I have made a sequinned bow to embellish the front and am now thinking if making a pocket and putting a wee rag doll in it attached to a piece of cord to give her something to play with should she get bored.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Ooh can we see some pictures of yours too Sarah? And your knitting Jud when it's done please!
Never done cross stitch. Ah so many crafts, so little time

message 644: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yes! I'm trying to finish it now just do I can put a photo of it up. Should have brought it to rehearsals with me

message 645: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I have a couple of cross stitch sets that someone bought for me, years ago, but I've never started them, because my previous efforts at cross stitch left me with a crumpled piece of material that was not even fit to be used as a dishcloth.

I have some pictures though that I stitched with long stitch.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Thanks Karen. I've nabbed the second of the quilt books, about making an art catalogue. Might come in useful for something. Can't ever see me doing quilting on an industrial scale! I'm even slower quilting than writing.

message 649: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments 30th square nearly finished so only 5 left to go. So happy about that, not so happy about having all the sewing still to do.
Still will be worth it all in the long run.
