Emma it sounds lovely what you are going to sew.
I started knitting a jumper but had trouble with neck so had to redo some of it and not yet finished ,long time since I have done any knitting

Pat () | -245 comments I have done the back and both fronts of a cardigan and have started the first sleeve and I am stuck. It is a two stitch crochet pattern ie. 1 treble 1 chain stitch and I have to increase every alternate row (each end) and then every third row. How can I do this and stay in pattern? It is giving me a headache. I have never done a cardigan before. Perhaps I won't even do this one

message 753: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't made many clothes with crochet, just a couple of baby jackets. I'm not sure how I would get on with sizing etc.

message 754: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments Perhaps I should have stuck with knitting or just bedspreads. It is very frustraiting!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I've never got into crochet somehow. Only using one needle just felt wrong!

message 756: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Will certainly post a photo if I don't fire it through the window first Kay!
I took a few wedding photos on my phone but they are not too clear. I have ordered a couple from the photographer so I will try scanning them into computer and see if that will work Kay. If not I could possibly email them.
Hope you manage to finish the jumper. I will check my emails Kay.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm now knitting a baby blanket for SIL but I didn't order enough wool the first time so ordered more and it just arrived today. Will be finishing it tonight :o)

Ooh, would like to see a photo of that when you've finished, Jud!

Won't be long before I have finished my nephew's zig zag blanket - I'll photograph it when I've done and post it along with the pic of the one that I made for one of our grandsons.

Can you do the increases Pat? Is it a 'filet' pattern in little squares. I can usually help with crochet as I've been doing it for years.

Lynne if you can help me that would be wonderful. Yes it is filet pattern.
The 1st row is 4ch miss next st 1tr in next, 1ch, to end ending 1tr.
2nd row 1dc each st to end.

I have 55 sts for sleeve and need to increase to 101 by increasing every other row to 61 then every 3rd row to 101st.
I know you should increase by doing 2dc in 1 st but the gap is larger than the pattern calls for. I don't really know what I am doing.
Anything you can suggest would be great to know. Thanks

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Pat. Just a thought is it a British/Continental pattern or US/Japanese pattern. I'm asking as British trebles are yarn over hook once and American trebles are yoh twice. Their single crochet is our double crochet and their doubles are our trebles (typical). its easy to see if its those chart patterns but when its all written its confusing.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments It's not very exciting Karen, it's just pom pom wool so its kind of fluffy

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Made another tie-sided cushion this afternoon. That Sewing Bee has got a lot to answer for. Think I am becoming addicted to cushions. At least they're a lot quicker to make than quilts!

I've been busy crocheting most of today. Will have a blanket ready to photograph soon!

It is a British pattern yoh once for tr. A King Cole one.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Third time lucky. My other posts have gone to a crochet black hole. Sorry Pat.
When you say 55 sts do you mean 55 squares of filet or 55 dc's. If its filets you increase like this.
Beginning of a row Make 5 chains (1 for the bottom space 3 for the tr. + 1 for the top space.) then tr in the 1st st as normal. It looks like a loop but the next row squares it up.
At the end of the row work 1 ch. Yoh for the tr. Then put your hook in the same loop you made the last tr. Pull the yarn through (keep the yoh for the treble but don't work it). Make 1 chain then work the treble.
If you just mean increase one d.c. Yes you do 2 dc's in 1 st. If that hasn't helped let me know.

Thats it!

I didn't know how to do the tr increase. Thank you so much. I just kept trying to do it with dc only and I knew it was wrong.
If I can do this I just might finish my cardigan

You are one clever lady and kind with it.

Thank you so much

It is 55st dc but the next row is filet

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Ah that's a nice compliment Pat. Thank you, my grandma taught me to crochet and I've done it for years. In the late sixties one Saturday morning I bought the wool, crocheted all day and wore the dress to go out dancing in at night. Bear in mind I was about 18, it was very mini, (I used to wear those M + S bra slips under) so they were decent (just). I've still got the pattern! (but alas not the figure) XX

Know what you men about the figure! #;-D

edit mean about the figure

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Freudian slip. With all those holes I did have a few men about my figure. ;o). Those were the days.

That looks so warm and cuddly!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Yes Jud, you've done well to find time to finish it. They'll love that and the colour is 'warmer' than flat white.

message 776: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments It's a bit smaller than I wanted but I wasn't using a pattern so I'm happy enough with it. I'll be able to improve it with the next one

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Its a handy size, you can put it under or on top of a pram/ pushchair as well as a snuggly and they dry quickly.

message 778: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yea, that's what I was thinking. Might go for an extra ball of wool next time anyway, I'd like it to be a wee bitty wider. It's a fine size for a newborn but will soon grow out of it.

message 779: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I've nearly finished my corset. But I can't find the hammer to get the eyelets in properly so it's just sitting on the table waiting. I had two friends ask if I was taking orders too. Now back to reading and maybe even writing if I get really excitable. (Sorry if the post doesn't flow well from the previous one, it takes too long to scroll down on the app)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments So pleased. I fancied making a kimono style dressing gown for the summer and there are quite a few free patterns on tinternet... now wondering if I've got time to do a patchwork one! (before the Summer, I mean)

message 791: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds a lovely idea, as for the time factor though... maybe for next summer? (If we ever getone...)

;0)

message 794: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished my nephews blanket a few days ago, but haven't finished weaving in all the loose threads yet. I've also started one for my mother-in-law, she wanted a lap blanket but I got carried away with the length and it's wide enough to fit our double bed! Not sure that I will get it finished in time to give her next time we see her now....

:0)

message 796: by Dymphna (new)

Dymphna (sorcha1971) | 34 comments A kimono style dressing gown sounds lovely, but a patchwork one sounds like a lot of work.

Are there any paper crafters here? I love working with paper. Making cards, evelopes, gift boxes etc.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Anyone watch the final Sewing Bee? I think the right person won. A very short series though, considering the baking ones seem to go for ages.

message 798: by Kay (Golden Girl) (new)

Kay (Golden Girl) | 2193 comments yes I watched the sewing bee and agree the right person won ,but think they all did well considering the times they got to do things .
