Pat () | -245 comments Yes it was a bit of a shock to me too.

I can only think it was an old lady who was happy the make the squares but who had trouble stitching them. I know my fingers play up if I do too much crocheting.

Ah well will keep me out of mischief, I guess.

It's no good, I can't get the hang of adding photos to the thread! Here is a link instead..

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...

I made this for my nephew in his favourite colours of blues, greens and yellows. The stripes are quite random, I get bored with working at it and looking at it if it is too regimented.

message 853: by [deleted user] (new)

This was for our grandson in his favourite colours of blues, greens and purples.

I'll post the one that I made for my mother-in-law once I've worked in all the loose threads, could be some time.... It's much bigger than the first two!

Pat () | -245 comments Two lovely blankets Karen. Lot of work gone into these.

I have to post photos to photobucket and then I can use some html code from there to insert the photos here.

message 855: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Pat.

I tried inserting the html from facebook but it could be that the photo files are too large..

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments The blankets are gorgeous Karen and so are the baby squares Pat!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Has anyone bought and knitted/crocheted any silk yarn. I wondered how it washes although I might ring them and ask but I also want to know has it any weight and drape. I want to knit or crochet a short jacket/bolero in a quite open fabric to wear over a strappy summer dress. I suppose cotton might be a good alternative but I liked the sheen of the silk I saw.

message 858: by [deleted user] (new)

Never used it, Lynne - but would be interested to see how it turns out if you do decide to go ahead!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Its about £13 per hank I assume that's 100 grammes but I'm going to ring the supplier and ask as it looks perfect for what I want, but at that price it could be an expensive mistake as I think I'd need 3 at least. I'll l keep you posted and I'll ask for a little sample.

message 860: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments No I haven't used anything like that Lynne.

It is worse than that Patti it is florescent!
Still I guess the cats won't care.
And I am only sewing them together

The squares that is not the cats!

message 863: by [deleted user] (new)

Glad to hear that you are not sewing cats together, Pat - I might have had to report you... ;0)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I finished my bag today. I've got lots of pictures to make a tutorial type thing for it. I'll post a link tomorrow when I've written out instructions if anyone is interested. It's got room for my lap top, note book, lunch box, first aid kit and a water bottle pocket. I'm going to start work on a smaller over the shoulder bag for phone, purse and note book that will fit inside the larger bag and also be useable on its own when I don't need to take my laptop with me. Hopefully this will stop me losing so much stuff in the bottom of my bag and the water bottle pocket is on the outside so it won't get my notebooks wet if it spills.

message 868: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments Sounds good Emma

message 869: by [deleted user] (new)

I look forward to seeing that, Emma.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Sounds great, Emma. Looking forward to seeing it.

My next project (after I've quilted the beach mat) is a sort of hold-all thingy to hang on the back of the car seat in the campervan. Looking forward to this - want to do some trad VW van shapes

message 871: by [deleted user] (new)

I've finished weaving in all the loose threads on the blanket that I have made for my mother-in-law! She only wanted a lap blanket but I got carried away and now she has a bed spread!

I'm having a break from ripple blankets now and am making a floral one for my five year old princess of a neice. I'm not sure about it though, looks a bit busy, I think I've used too many colours. Will make a good sized strip of it and then consider whether to carry on. Will post a pic for opinions after I've done a bit more of it.

That is stunning Karen. She will be delighted.
I have never done 'ripple', might even try one myself if it is not to hard.

An excellent Tutorial Emma. the only things I sew now are curtains. Even then I have wobbly stitching. Time to call it a day for me, I'm afraid.

message 875: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Thank you. I wouldn't even know where to start with curtains.

message 876: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments On a good note I have finished stitching the first lot of very colourful squares together. 5 by 4. Really it could do with an edging. Will see how I feel when I have the second load of squares done. At least these are less bright, being chocolate, fawn, and cream. various combinations used so the stitching together will show, which is a pity. I know it is only for cats to sleep on but it feels wrong to me.

message 877: by [deleted user] (new)

Well done, Pat - must have been hard work!

Ripple blankets are very easy, I'll try and find a link to the pattern that I used. It's was a free download from one of the crochet sites.

Here's a link to download the free pdf pattern book for ripple blankets. You will need to add you email address at some point.

http://www.allfreecrochetafghanpatter...

The pattern that I used was called Ripples of Happiness.

I downloaded the pdf then emailed it to my kindle so that it is back up on amazon. Not ideal for reading on my kindle keyboard, although it's possible, but I hope to get a kindle fire one day..

:0)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Just picked this up from one of the craft forums. apparently crafts are not creative...

'The Government are currently running a consultation to reclassify creative Industries and they think craft doesn't count for various reasons, including the ridiculous idea that craftspeople are mostly involved in manufacturing rather than being creative (what!)

There is a petition here to sign to let the government know what we think...
https://submissions.epetitions.direct...

And a Guardian newspaper article here, written by a member of the Crafts Council...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture-pro... '

hmm.

*sigh* There are some stupid ideas about at the mo. The other stupid idea that I've heard is that the EU wish to make it illegal to sell, collect or use seed that hasn't been registered and licensed...

Pat () | -245 comments Thanks Karen, I cracked on so it's not hanging over me to get it done. going back to the baby blanket now. Made up 5 flowers before I realised I had missed out the second row on each of them and have to take them out again. I am beginning to think I am not meant to do it.

Petition signed Karen!
Good for you Pat, such finicky work!

message 894: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Thanks re the petition Sarah. We can but try.

Off to the Quilting group tonight. It's all about... Christmas decorations!!!
(but to be fair, unless you start unseasonably early, it's a struggle to get everything finished) Our local wonderful fabric shop stocks Christmas fabrics all year round. Now I understand why.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Thanks Karen, I hope you enjoyed your week off, no apologies necessary. We all appreciate your hard work. Those charges for WI-fi are quite steep aren't they. Our friends went on a cruise and had a fit at the charges. He did nothing but moan about them and the speed of the connections!
