Emma Faragher | 301 comments Note books. Surprisingly easy to make. And the tardis pattern using foam worked quite well.

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Update, presents have been a success. Granny had to be told I'd made hers! (Made a notebook with printed pages for a two days per page diary and did the cover with nice wool cover)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Happy Craftmas!

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Well done! I'm in awe that you got everything done in time! Did you get a photo of the Tardis?

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Oops, no but I'll get a picture and upload it tomorrow when it's opened,

Well done, Emma - that looks really good!

Emma Faragher | 301 comments It was far easier than I expected it to be but I was a bit disappointed in how the corners turned out. My aunty loved it though.

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments That's brilliant, Emma! You should go and work in the BBC props department!

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments And the same to you! Back to the church tapestry now.

message 1420: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Hope it's going well, Lexie.
I'm making a start on my Book Quilt this weekend once I've made my mind up what colour the borders are going to be. And I've sort of finalised my 100 fave books for it.

message 1421: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Did I miss this before? What's your book quilt? It sounds like a perfect combination!

message 1422: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Aah, well, I can't claim the idea myself, but over on the Goodreads quilt forum, Dana started a blog doing a quilt based on the books she read during 2013. I thought it was a terrific idea - so have now narrowed it down to 90 books I've loved - leaving me space for a few more to come. And I'm thinking this will be a 2 year project. Can't wait to get started! First up, The Secret Garden.

message 1423: by [deleted user] (new)

That sounds a fantastic idea, Karen! Can't wait to see a photo of it when you have finished.

I've finished making a ripple blanket for a friend who is convalescing. I'm kicking myself that I forgot to take a photo of it before I gave it to her..

No free craft books today.

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments In fact, I think we may need to see each square of the quilt as we go, for inspiration! Sounds wonderful. Any tough ones you're anticipating?

Not really - more excited cos they're all books I love. I suppose Gormenghast could be a challenge tho! I think the tricky bit will be getting the border colour right to unite the whole thing - at the mo, I'm opting for dark red.
I'm not sure about a couple of the books on my list so am going to re-read them to make sure. One of them, Edna O'Brien's The Country Girls, I read years ago.
Should be fun anyway.

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I've got another order for wedding stationary so I'm going to play around with my new embossing folders and some ribbon.

I've also made a very nice work dress in an amazingly soft wool but I didn't use the whole length of zip and forgot to see off the cut end! Does anyone know how to get the zipper back on the zip? Else I'll have to pick it out and put a new one in. It's the first time I've had a zip go right! I sewed it off the first time but then had to shorten it again as it was causing lumps and forgot the second time. Went to put it on this morning and I nearly cried!

Karen I thought you may be interested in this book
The Forgotten SeamstressThe Forgotten Seamstress
It's all about a mystery set around a patchwork quilt, having just finished reading the story I can recommend it.

I like the sound of it also. Just one clicked it. Thanks

Thanks Sarah, will go and look. (been away in London for a few days... and bought a pack of lovely Liberty prints for patchwork. Couldn't resist )

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Wonderful Karen, I do love Liberty prints. I had a few scarves back in the day;@)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I have already got the jewellery book, but I have to say I'm not keen on the wire work beading - I tried it on my craft weekend last year. My first attempts at beading with thread and needle are in the photos now - along with a photo of my new nephews. ;)

message 1440: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Have finished the first 2 blocks for the book quilt,
https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...
If I manage to do 2 a week, it'll only take me a year to finish :)

message 1441: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Ooh, I like them! You do the writing beautifully, too.

message 1442: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Karen those are beautiful. The quilt is going to be amazing! Is the writing done freehand?

message 1443: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments No, can't take credit for the writing. It's my superduper sewing machine - I'm not quite used to it yet, but by the time the quilt's finished, I'll be an expert!

message 1444: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments That's still impressive. If it was me the writing would have ended up upsidedown or going across the picture half way through! You must keep posting pictures as you put it together so that we can see how it's coming!

I'm handing over the wedding invites to my friends this weekend. Hopefully they'll be happy. Just have to do the sentiments for them but I don't know what colour they want and I've left my cutting thingy at home so I don't want to risk using scissors and making them uneven! Next project looks like it'll be a mini-scrapbook. Since they all have pages I thought I'd do one that acted kind of like a case for all my sewing patterns. Then I could use the pages to put pictures of the finished garments.

message 1445: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Good luck with the invites!

Karen, in my experience it's even harder to do it by machine - it always runs away with me!

message 1446: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments The mini scrapbook sounds a great idea, Emma. And obviously you'll be making quilts with all the left-over fabrics...

I've had a few 'teething problems' getting the writing done! I probably learn more by doing it wrong the first time tho. I can't change the font size, so am hoping Frances Hodgson Burnett is the 'longest' author, otherwise it won't fit. And I've abandoned the 'the' in front of the titles or they won't fit the width of the block. Short book titles will get preference!

message 1447: by [deleted user] (new)

It's gorgeous, Karen!

message 1448: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Thanks Karen! am now on to 'The Go Between' and so far have only unpicked it twice. I do have a knack of doing everything wrong first time. And second time... so third time lucky hopefully.

message 1449: by [deleted user] (new)

I do lots of unpicking when I try to crochet something for the first time!
