Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I got the most lovely little hand made baby banner from Sarah when she came up to see my show, I'll have to post a photo of it (It's been carefully tucked away in the envelope again to keep it safe). I can't wait to hang it up in our room :o)

Can't wait to see it!

Do you know yet if you are having a boy or a girl, or is it too early to tell?

message 1511: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No, haven't found out, Grampian don't tell you so we would have to go private and I'm not that bothered.

I love buying craft supplies! I''ve just started to make some blankets for some of the grandkids. I had a lovely day yesterday online shopping for supplies and researching patterns.

One grandson wants this blanket. http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns...

I'm making two of these - http://www.pinterest.com/pin/38414304... one much as it is shown, and another one adpated to fit Hello Kitty motifs as the ten year old is mad on Hello Kitty. I'll post pictures when I have anything to show. The pattern for the girls is lovely and really fun to make, I've finished one and a half squares so far...

Until recently people had to wait and see anyway!

message 1515: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yea! I'd rather buy everything neutral at first so it will do a second child no matter what it is. Plus if I knew I would find it too hard not to buy a load of cute baby clothes for the appropriate gender.

I have bought a batman zipper jacket though but only because Oscar has a Superman coat so we'll have SuperDog and BatBaby :o)

message 1516: by [deleted user] (new)

I love that - Superdog and Batbaby!

:D

message 1517: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Karen those blankets are amazing.

I feel that when I do have children (quite a few years away, I've still got just over 2 years of uni still) I'll probably make most of their clothes from cheap, hardwearing, colourful fabrics. I'll keep doing so, allowing them to chose fabrics, until they demand that they want bought clothes (hopefully quite a while since I should be able to make nice clothes). Then I'll be able to make formal clothes for them so they can have exactly what they want. Alternatively I'm a bit too ambitious of what being a working mother will be like, another reason I'm a few years away from it!

message 1518: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'll let you know if I think you'd have time for that Emma (once I get there)

Bet you're kids will love it when they are older and you'll be able to make them exactly what they want, and no one else will have it.

Our first grandchild's due at Easter, and here you have to pay £50 for a scan to tell the sex of baby. So daughter didn't bother. She thinks it's a boy anyway. Will let you know!
Looking forward to starting a cot quilt - am thinking Noah's Ark at the mo. If that's not too ambitious. I do like a challenge!

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Batbaby ... I was at a Hallowe'en party once where there was a very small baby dressed as a bat. It was ridiculously cute.

message 1523: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm getting on well with the first blanket that I am making for the grandkids - and a big bag of wool and a small bag of Hello Kitty appliques arrived today in the post!

message 1525: by [deleted user] (new)

I have six to make..... aaargh!!

For three grandaughters, two grandsons, and one half sister to grandkids who I don't want to feel left out. So I'm making four sparkly blankets for the girls, one much as shown above, two adjusted to fit Hello Kitty motives in and one adjusted for a girl who's favourite colours are blue and red (and likes the keep calm logos.) Then one Spiderman and one darlek blanket. I may be some time......

;0)

message 1526: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Oh, my! Can you make them as you travel around the country?

message 1527: by [deleted user] (new)

Might have to... I've already warned them that it will be a long wait before they are ready. Though the pink one is working up quite quickly. Looks like we have at least a week at home before we are out again so I can get a lot done in that time.

message 1528: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have a knitting question, I'm trying to knit a wee matinee coat but I'm stuck on row 11, the instructions are... "Make hem by knitting tog 1 st from needle and 1 loop from cast-on edge all across row"

Does that mean I have to knit this row together with the first row to make a tube?

I'll type up the instructions from the start in case the above doesn't make sense on it's own.

message 1529: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Work picot hem as follows:- 1st row - K. 2nd row - P. 3rd and 4th rows - as 1st and 2nd. 5th row - K1, * yfwd, K2tog; rep from * to end. 6th row - P.
7th to 10th row - Rep 1st and 2nd rows twice. 11th row - Make hem by knitting tog 1 st from needle and 1 loop from cast-on edge all across row.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That's what it looks like to me Jud. I think it's like a fold up hem?

message 1531: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have no idea but I'll give it a go and see what happens :o)

Thanks Nosemanny!

message 1532: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments It sounds like the 5th row is making the lacy edge which will be at the bottom when it is folded.

message 1533: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Ah! I wondered why mine didn't look like the picture!

Although I just realised I should probably use every other loop cause I only have half the stitches in row 11 after K2tog in row in 5th row! t'chah!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments You should have the same number of stitches though - when you bring the yarn forward before knitting it gives you an extra stitch... I think
This is really hard when I don't have a piece of knitting in my hands to practise on!

message 1535: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I thought I had gone wrong somewhere. Oh well, back a few rows then :o)

message 1536: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments My yarn forwarding isn't working. When I get to the next row it just falls out :o(

message 1537: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments It should make a proper stitch to replace where you knit two together.

Found this on you tube......it shows it pretty clear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHGYU...

message 1538: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yea, that's the one I followed and it didn't work but I think I knit backwards (I put the thread over the needle the wrong way) so I tried a second time going over the needle first rather than under and it seemed to work. I must remember next time I start knitting to do it the right way round.

message 1539: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments If we manage to meet for coffee bring it along! Just in case I can add a few more stitches to it ...

message 1540: by Pat () (last edited Mar 11, 2014 02:16AM) (new)

Pat () | -245 comments Back at the start of November I bought 7 100gm balls of wool on a whim. Didn't get to use them until now and was worried I would not have enough to finish a jumper so went back to get a couple more. No luck she had sold out of that colour completely. I thought about it an decided to order on line. Ordered one afternoon and they came the next morning. Right colour and make AND RIGHT DYE. Whats the odds on that! I am delighted.

message 1541: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I tend not to take it out of the house in case of accidents! I managed to break the bamboo needle I was using the other night but thankfully it just cracked a little so I didn't lose any knitting.

I've nearly finished my first sleeve. Haven't been doing too much the last few nights with my headache, focussing on the stitches feels like too much effort.

That was really lucky, Pat! The chances of that must have been minute!

message 1542: by [deleted user] (new)

That is good news, Pat. I did that too, when I had a blanket to finish before a certain time and the local wool shop couldn't get it in in time. It cost me more than the shop would have done, but at least I was able to finish the blanket on time!

Knitting baby clothes by any chance, Jud...?

;0)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Wow, I do sometimes wonder how we all coped pre-Internet. I guess it's one of those things you just wouldn't miss unless you'd gotten used to it. Like a kindle or smartphone. Congrats on the knitting success. I'm planning to do the dress I bought a pattern for (£2.95 from John Lewis) and some amazing blue cotton with a big flower pattern. The weather might even hold out long enough for me to wear it!
