I did wonder, so not sure...

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Thought I'd share my excitement at having bought some wire clippers so I can finally do the boning for my corset! Then I can get on and sew the rest of my elsa costume! (Coronation dress not the blue one).

It's great being excited about things. Hope it turns out well :)

Baby cardigan is lovely Jud, so sweet!

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Thanks. I now have my packaging. I think I over-ordered! Rolls of bubble-wrap and bags with filler material were as tall as me and like the big round hay bales when they arrived! Filled the hallway and now filled the summerhouse with those and the boxes! I only hope I can sell stuff to use them all up. Deb's comment to me was OMG, what have you ordered. Lol

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Love the little cardi, Jud. Soo cute.

Loved the banner too, Shaun, tho I did think like Jud that the D isn't obvious. Amazing how much space all the packaging takes up. Still got a large roll of corrugated card shoved under my sewing table from my days of sending out batches of crossword books!

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments I hope it becomes more apparent when on a larger scale without the tips of the wings missing. The Etsy banner size is restrictive. This is the Facebook banner: https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

really eye-catching.
Getting exciting now!

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments I made another stag beetle. The wings/shell came out really well, especially when I lacquered it. https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Handsome chap, Shaun.
Unlike the bl**dy lily beetles I just discovered yesterday. I gave up growing lilies a couple of years back because of them, and this year I thought I'd give it another go... wrong. Anyone else having the same probs, let them know at the RHS website which also covers other non-natives eg rosemary beetle, hemerocallis gall midge, berberis sawfly - and of course our gaudy red lily beetle... at www.rhs.org.uk/science
I often get the bibley lot banging on my door and I tell them honestly that I think the midges and viruses will rule the day. Try converting them

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Had a great afternoon at the very first Big Art Show at the showground in Shrewsbury - it didn't even rain for the first couple of hours. But it was desperately sad how few people turned up, and there were loads of artists/crafts people/ sculptors ets - loads of really lovely stuff. I think it cost over two hundred quid for a stall for the weekend, so just hoping the weather improves for them all tomorrow and that people turn up. Bought a couple of things, to do our bit!
It's tough making a living out of arts and crafts.

message 1820: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Had a look at the website. Looks a great show. Items look expensive though!

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I'm going to Loncon3 in August and I've bought the last of my fabric for my costume. Now I just need a hammer and I can get to sewing! (Need I finish the corset before finalising the measurements for the rest)

I'm planning to film as I'm going along, parly for a YouTube video and partly to get pictures to be judged for the workmanship part of the masquerade. I had to share because I'm so excited! I'll put a link to the video when I'm done so you can see. I'm hoping it will turn out well as this is the first time I'll ever be judged for what I've made!

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments That sounds really complex! Good luck for all of it!

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Looking forward to the launch, Shaun. All the best.
The Metalsmiths had a display at the Big Art show - the dragonflies are really tall - start at £150. No idea what metal, looked like steel but not shiny. The hens were cute too. http://www.metalsmiths.co.uk/

All sounds v exciting Emma. Look forward to seeing the costume.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'll be at LonCon, but just on the Sunday, and not in costume. My first ever Con!

message 1828: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments It's my first con too! I'm in a panel on the Thursday and exploring for the rest. I'm so scared of starting this sewing in case it turns out badly though.

I'm more nervous about offering my sculptures up for sale in case people don't like them, than I am when someone buys one of my books!!!!!

message 1837: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Thanks everyone. Only time will tell if people purchase anything or if I make a go of it. If not, I'll have enough packaging to insulate the house I think! Lol

message 1838: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments The shop looks great, Shaun. Very best of luck. Will do some facebook 'liking' when I've got a bit more time.
Love that stag beetle... disturbed a few in the garden over the last couple of days!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think they are really pretty I'm wracking my brain trying to think of someone I could buy one for. It needs to be Christmas, or someones birthday or someone should buy a house.

Or someone having a baby :)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I was tempted until I saw that you only send to the UK. I'll wait until I have moved and then decorate my new house with Deshca creations.

Postage abroad is expensive, but I will send anywhere if the buyer is paying it :)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Well at this point I would only be storing it until I move anyway.

message 1845: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Grr, I tried to dye some royal blue velvet teal today with dylon fabric dye and it doesn't seem to have made any difference! I've ordered a brighter green in a machine dye as that will be less work and hopefully dye it better. I was so worries about over doing it that I think I diluted it way too much. Plus 4.5m of cotton velvet is quite a lot. It's so frustrating because I need to due the fabric before I start sewing it really. Although if I sewed it first the weight would be less and the thread should match anyway. I don't know. Help!

message 1846: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments But then if you sew it, dye it and it shrinks ... I'm not sure what to advise, but good luck!

message 1847: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments It's already been washed twice. I doubt it will shrink again but it is a worry. The fabric isn't supposed to be washed above 40 at any rate but I always wonder whether to pre-shrink it all at 60 before sewing just in case something happens. Like my dad deciding to do the washing. Dyed my favourite too blue when I was about eleven and shrunk my favourite jumper when I was about fourteen. I was livid and he was sorry enough not to do my washing again!

message 1848: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments The only thing I have ever dyed is my fingers while using food colouring so I don't think I'll be much use to you Emma... Although if you have already 'washed' the material would that not mean if it was going to shrink it already would have so sewing it and then dyeing it shouldn't shrink it again?

message 1849: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I think so. I put it through a wash at 50 today to maximise the pre-sewing shrinkage. Thankfully the fabric is still good and hasn't shrunk much at all. It's beautiful and I'm terrified of mucking up. It's a velvet so soft it's got a sheen to it. The dye I ordered after the hand dye didn't work should be here tomorrow and I'll try again. I'm having tomorrow and Saturday as sewing (and filming) days and hope to do everything but the gloves (I don't have the fabric for them/ need to make a test pair) and possibly the cloak (easy but so big) so I'll dye the velvet and sew the cotton parts tomorrow lol. Hoping for the best.
