This kindle pattern is free again today, I made it up the other day and the pattern is nice and easy to follow. It's in american notation but I've put an english translation in my review.

Ouchy! I hate it when that happens! Unpicked most of a scarf I was making last night as I decided that it would look better worked on a smaller hook...

I've just joined pinterest to showcase my crochet. Still trying to get my head around how to use it! I've aready found my facebook friends on there - anyone else use pinterest! Want to follow me? Let me know how to find you and I'll follow you.

I'm amazed at how many good sites with free patterns, there are around! Every time I find one I find links to even more new ones!

I've found that pinterest is much better for saving favourite patterns that I find online, rather than just bookmarking them as I have been!

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Love seeing the photos of your work, awesome stuff.
I've stalled lately on the patchwork quilts I was making, as there's rather a lot going on on the homefront at the mo. But I am determined to get my Goodreads Christmas banner done next week, plus the ones for the craft forum I belong to... and I've just signed up to do a swap, making an 'elf door' with a Christmassy theme (in card rather than wood, and only 6 inch square max.) I just love doors. No idea what I'm going to do yet.

I've been hosting a scrapbook class over on the forum, using patchwork pieces (of course). Think I'll cut up some of my stash of Christmas papers to make my Christmas cards this year... hexagons of course. Anyone else started/finished their cards yet?

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I had made around a dozen cards Karen but MIL asked if I could give her some(she really does appreciate them)
so it loooks like I will be starting again!
I have a couple of really intricate Christmas Xstitch kits that I would like to do but time I fear is against me at the moment.

Sounds like you'll be busy too then Sarah! Always reckon we shd start on the cards in August as it's always such a rush come December. Never do, of course.

Busy, but then I do prioritise a lot... i.e. housework? nah. Crafts... mm, can just manage an hour.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Last year I made all my cards but was a bit put off by the postal charges as most went over the required size for standard postage, even worse I had to queue to get them sized and weighed. The lady behind the counter had a face like fizz!

message 167: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I started with scrapbooking before I made cards - there was a craft shop near to us that ran workshops and had a scrapbooking club once a month, we would take our own stuff, buy extra bits from the shop and swap ideas. Unfortunately the shop closed and I haven't been able to find anything similar that is within easy reach and not during work time :(
Scrapbooking (for me) was always more fun when other people were there for company.

message 168: by [deleted user] (new)

What a shame that the shop closed! Sounds like the group was fun!

message 169: by [deleted user] (new)

I've finally taken a photo of the middle piece of the blanket that I am working on.

http://www.goodreads.com/photo/group/...

I can't share this on facebook as my sister has ordered it as a pressie for her hubby and he'll see it if I post it elsewhere!

He is a mad keen Pompey football club supporter - so I'm making it in the team colours. The centre reads Ian heart PFC. At the mo I am laboriously making alphabet squares which will read out "Play up, Pompey - Pompey, Play up" It's in blue and white squares which look like the football scarf! I'm pleased with the way that it's turning out. I'd better crack on because I have about three weeks left to finish it before my sister comes to visit and will want to take it away with her!

message 173: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks everyone - I've been working on this all day and into the evening, I have about two weeks in which to finish it. I'm pleased with the way it is turning out. I've been laboriously working through the alphabet squares still, over half way through. Found the BBC's series The Paradise (which I didn't know about before!) and watched all the episodes up to date on the iplayer while I worked. Got loads done - when it's a repetative pattern it helps me to have something running in the background!

Someone on facebook asked if I took orders the other day - she wants to order a granny blanket! V excited as this is my first order from outside of the family!

:0)

message 174: by [deleted user] (new)

Aaarrghhh! I needed much more royal blue yarn that I estimated and I can't finished the blanket without some more but the shop has sold out! They've ordered some in which should be in on Mon or Tues, so I'll carrying on with some of the infilling until I get it. Lesson - make sure I buy enough of the colour at the time!

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Oh Karen, what a shame.

I visited the art gallery in Sandsend(near Whitby) where Harry exhibits some of his enamels and treated myself to one.I am so thrilled, they are absolutely beautiful! The man behind the counter asked me if I had read Tom Fleck!

Feeling a bit disappointed cos I've lost my facebook order! The lady said she was happy with the quoted price and that she would email me the details. I've just had a very nice email from her graciously backing out - she is a friend of my Mum's who now lives abroad but was coming home for a long visit. She realised that she wouldn't have room in her suitcase for a blanket by the time she's taken home her extras. Fair enough and I don't have any hard feelings, but I am a bit disappointed. Never mind - back to working on the "Pompey" blanket for BIL..

It is knotting thread and large beads that I have tried. Photos going on now.

Looks lovely - I'd love to try that.

I did used to crochet little bracelets a few years ago by joining together irish crochet flower. I made them tie-on with a line of chain crochet, which I did put a bead on the end of - that's the most beading I have done so far. The bracelets were quite popular but I haven't made any for a few years now and don't have any left to show - I sold or gave them all away..

message 191: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I've been looking through the beads that I have to see if any are suitable for making more of the same bracelets - once I'd figured out how to make them they were quick and easy to make. I haven't many victims lucky people to force them on give them to though.

Love the crossed-out words, Janet!

Ha ha - now that we have a craft thread I keep getting craft related adverts coming up on goodreads - at the mo there is an advert for lessons on "pant construction techniques" *sniggers*

Aw, so cute!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We've just laughed at the baby bunny hat. It reminded me of Wallace and Grommit's rabbits. I've just about finished my shrug/bolero/ cardigan for my chic Parisian friend and have a ball of wool over. Husband just suggested to make her a hat like that ;o). I wouldn't dare.

That's a shame - I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you handed her the matching bunny hat....

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments She'd swat you Karen. She eats innocents for breakfast. She bought me a lovely china goose which is a traditional ornament. It guards the house and she chose the place on my mantelpiece where 'Rosalie' had to stand facing the door. I thanked her and she said she had one the same. Then came the phonecall. Can you make bonnets for the geese? In crochet, white and very delicate. I must have made a dozen before she found one she liked. My pal rang to ask me to go somewhere and I had to say I was too busy. She asked "Why, what are you doing?" My reply was" I'm making hats for pot geese!" She thought I was being sarky and was quite cool with me. I'll tell you about what happened when she took me out to tea at a 5* hotel, another time ;o))

Another free crochet book on kindle (there seem to be more free crochet than any other type of craft...)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Money-Making-... (although I'm not sure that the phrase "money-making" belongs in the same sentence as crochet...)
