Jeane (pinkbookdragon) | 323 comments I certainly don't have time to write, but if you guys don't know about National Write a Novel Month, and you have time to write, you should check it out!

Karena (karenafagan) I've heard of this and so wanted to participate, but I get weird about my writing. Actually I just finished a book the other day that started out as a NaNOWriMO contribution! How crazy is that? This is seriously a great event!

message 3: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) So I decided to participate in this year's NaNoWriMo! I used to write a bunch and then got older and more self conscious about it so I stopped. I need everyone's harassment so I don't quit! I'm trying to figure out which voice in my head to shut up though. We'll see who I pick!

message 4: by Angie Downs (new)

Angie Downs That is exciting! Good luck!

message 5: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) Well update to this is I just hit 40k. It's been fun. I have some ideas for a series which I wasn't planning. 10k to go and 2 big scenes to write. I'm less worried about not hitting my word count by the 30th, but finishing off my Big Bad. Not sure how my main character is going to deal with him.

message 6: by Angie Downs (new)

Angie Downs Congratulations on finishing your book! I hope you sell it right away and become rich and famous! :)Some day I will participate in that challenge and I will have a ton of fun too. Good job!

message 7: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) Thanks. It is a very rough draft so I'm having a friend of mine edit it. I told him to take his time since I've got this and the holidays going on. It was a lot of fun. I suggest everyone participate!

Jeane (pinkbookdragon) | 323 comments CONGRATS ON FINISHING! Hurry up and publish and become famous so I can know you!

Lazy Linesman (LazyLinesman) | 21 comments Congratulations, it would seem, are in order! Just finished it meself - now looking for the best way to purge the last dregs of caffeine from the system...

message 10: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) Congrats! I just submitted this morning. Now to order my t-shirt! I just gave it to an editor friend of mine and now I'm so freaking nervous.

message 11: by Lazy (new)

Lazy Linesman (LazyLinesman) | 21 comments Daring to let it see the light of day? Good on you! I'm keeping mine firmly under wraps for the time being - might come back to it later, but I think I need to step away from it for month or two. Turned out to be more of a really long plan than a readable story. Was yours pre-planned or 'pantsed'?

message 12: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) I went through 3 different story ideas before landing on the one I wrote. The night before NaNo started I pitched ideas to my husband then wrote it out as an outline. Although lots of stuff happened I didn't plan and I ran with it. I never knew characters could revolt like that.

I did tell my friend to take his time. I am taking a break from it as well. The group here needed my attention as did Trapped by Kevin Hearne which I've been looking forward to for months!

Lazy Linesman (LazyLinesman) | 21 comments They can be tricky little blighters, certainly.

Looking forwards to sitting down with some more books, too, after a month of guiltiness whenever I picked one up. Just like university again!

Karena (karenafagan) Evan wrote: "I just finished my novel for NaNoWriMo. Actually did it on time, but still had a bit more to write afterward. Hoping to distribute it a bit and get some opinions before I start some hardcore editing!"

Congrats Evan. Is this your first year competing?

On another note, is anyone going to buy some winner's swag?

message 15: by Selena (new)

Selena I'm cheap so I'm using the free stuff.

message 16: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) I totally want to get a shirt this week.

A Kindle is a great reward! I was super nervous too, even more so now that I have an editor friend editing it all. I've never finished a book from beginning to end and it's so nerve wracking.

Anyone want to share what their books were about? I will start.

A weak Earth Mage, Circe Ballantyne leaves her Coterie under ostracism and her own disgust at the old ways. She's befriended by a friendly florist who takes her under her wing and shows her the way of the humans. Six years later, walking home she's attacked and wakes up in the basement of her rival, the Zoan, Yuma. She's been asleep and changing for three days, her red hair now suddenly pure white and her earth magic gone. In its place is a talent for tech. Circe hears about rumors of a Tech Mage who is building a small army to take back the Coteries and force them to accept technology by replacing their natural talents, even if it's by force. Circe finds herself pursued by the Tech Mage to become part of this. She quickly realizes she must use this new talent to unite the inter fighting mages against this common foe.

Karena (karenafagan) That does sound interesting. Let me know when you're done with the editing. Would love to read it.

Next year we all need to be writing buddies!

message 18: by Lazy (new)

Lazy Linesman (LazyLinesman) | 21 comments Anyone taking the opportunity for five free (postage not included) books? Even with little intent to go any further with the story, I'm tempted.

message 19: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) That is tempting. Since I'm still in the revising stage I don't know if it will be any time soon for me.

message 20: by Eboné (new)

Eboné (ebone_siobhan) | 1 comments This is the second year that I've been too busy with work and school to participate!! 2013 will be my year!! No more school...LOL

I'm telling you, next time, we will all be writing buddies!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I signed up for this a while ago, but the same thing happened to me with school. I wanted to do it so bad!

message 23: by Dorottya (new)

Dorottya (dorottya_b) | 23 comments I wanted to do this last year, but I failed because of lack of time... this year I really wanna do it! I even have a story idea. Nothing really interesting, just an average chick lit story, but still, it would be fun!

message 24: by Tessara (new)

Tessara Dudley (tessaradudley) | 42 comments My problem is that I always reach 50k words, and then i stop. Need to buckle down and get my novel done, so it can be edited...

message 25: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) My current dilemma is that I have mine with a friend who is an editor, but now said friend hasn't been doing anything with it. I asked for it by the end of Dec and nothing. So I'm working on a tactful way of saying "Give me my manuscript or I'll cut you!" Ha.
