We're doing something a little different for November. Late October has Halloween and November has Thanksgiving, so I thought we should read books that take place around these times. I've found some that are the first in a series, and a couple where the order doesn't really matter. These are what I have.

The Diva Runs Out of Thyme (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #1) by Krista Davis The Diva Runs Out of Thyme Krista Davis
Murder on the Ghost Walk (Magnolia Mysteries, #1) by Ellen Elizabeth Hunter Murder on the Ghost Walk Ellen Elizabeth Hunter
Sympathy for the Devil (A Madeline Bean Catering Mystery #1) by Jerrilyn Farmer Sympathy for the Devil Jerrilyn Farmer
Witches' Bane (China Bayles, #2) by Susan Wittig Albert Witches' Bane Susan Wittig Albert
A Fatal Feast (Murder, She Wrote, #32) by Jessica Fletcher A Fatal Feast Jessica Fletcher
Trick or Treachery (Murder, She Wrote, #14) by Jessica Fletcher Trick or Treachery Jessica Fletcher
Turkey Day Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery, #7) by Leslie Meier Turkey Day Murder Leslie Meier
Trick or Treat Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery #3) by Leslie Meier Trick or Treat Murder Leslie Meier
Hallowe'en Party (Hercule Poirot #36) by Agatha Christie Hallowe'en Party Agatha Christie

This is the final list.

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) | 665 comments Death of a Turkey by Kate Grilley Borden I was interested in this book

message 3: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I like your list and would be happy with using that, but I'm also trying to read Agatha Christie books this year. How about Hallowe'en Party (Hercule Poirot #36) by Agatha Christie ?

message 4: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Fanfic - Death of a Turkey's not the first book in the series. Do you know if it can be read out of order without missing any background, or important changes?

Lynn - yes, will definitely include Christie!

I'm hoping people will also let me know if any of the books are really hard to find. I don't want to include books no one will be able to read.

message 5: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidi_ark) Those all seem great and I already have 3 in my tbr stack! :)

message 6: by Carmen (new)

Carmen Taylor | 3 comments Diva Runs Out of Thyme got a lot of good ratings.

message 7: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Great choices! It must have taken awhile to compile this. My order of preference would be Sympathy for the Devil, then The Diva Runs Out of Thyme, then Witches' Bane (which would have been my first choice, but my library doesn't have it). Same goes for Murder on the Ghost Walk. So, if one of those are chosen, I'll try to find it cheap on Amazon. I noticed the Death of a Turkey series has an earlier book set at Halloween called Death of a Trickster (#2). I'd be willing to read either one out of order, for the sake of the season.

I would like to see Agatha Christie's Halloween party on there too but the list looks like a great one!

The poll is up and runs through Sunday night. Vote for your top choice. If the choice is close for the second book, we'll have a short runoff poll.

Iamabibliophile | 201 comments Voting now for my pick and hoping a Jessica Fletcher book at least makes 2nd...never read one before.

:)

message 12: by AngryGreyCat (new)

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) | 665 comments I voted. Can't wait to see what we will be reading:)

message 13: by Sage (new)

Sage (baggimuffin) I vote for Diva runs out of thyme and witches' bane.

I've read 5 of these and posted a comment at the poll about them. This list does not include the first in one of Carolyn Hart's series - Ghost at Work. It's a Halloween mystery that I'll be reading this month - I'm on a ghost theme this year.
Ghost at Work (Bailey Ruth, #1) by Carolyn Hart

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Diva Runs Out of Thyme sounds interesting and I have read Witches Bane before, wouldn't mind reading again, since Susan Wittig Albert is one of my favorite mystery writers.

message 16: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 201 comments I voted for Ghost Walk.

I really do not want to read another Christie book for a while. But I'll see what the polls say. :)

message 17: by Sage (new)

Sage (baggimuffin) I am reading Ghost at Work soon too Nell.

Sorry, but that one never showed up when I was searching. And it sounds really fun!

I have that one on my TBR shelf (Hart's Death on Demand series is one of my favorites, and I enjoyed her Henrie O. series, too!). I hadn't thought about it, and have a lot of other reading to get through this month, but if I don't run out of time, that would be a good one to get read for Halloween! Thanks for reminding me!

message 20: by Jackie (new)

Jackie G | 2 comments They all look great to me! Maybe Turkey Day by Meier and Hallowe'en Party by Christie if I have to choose two!

FYI - Just in case you're new to this group, you have to click on polls (in the upper right corner) to vote for your top choice.

There are lots of mysteries that fit into this category. You had to narrow the selection for this poll. There is a mystery site that lists cozies by theme, including holidays, that makes the search easier. It's www.cozy-mystery.com

message 25: by Tonya (new)

Tonya Kappes (tonyakappes) I vote for Agatha! Can't go wrong with her;)

message 26: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 1410 comments Make sure you vote in the poll that is in the upper right hand corner. Telling us in this thread doesn't count!

Nell - that was one of the sources I used, but somehow I missed Carolyn Hart.

I've been having computer problems, so haven't been as active as I should have been. Thanks to ya'll for helping newer people!

Since it's pretty clear that The Diva Runs Out of Thyme is going to be the winner, with several close for second place, I'm going to go ahead and end this poll and start another to choose our second book. That will feature Hallowe'en Party, Murder on the Ghost Walk, and Trick or Treat Murder. Since several people mentioned it, I'm going to add Ghost at Work.

The poll is up and will run through Tuesday night.

message 30: by Denise (new)

Denise (dulcinea3) | 131 comments Thanks for adding Ghost at Work! I voted for Christie in the first poll, but will vote for Hart now.

In addition to clicking on the Polls link in the upper right corner, you can usually find it by scrolling to the bottom of the group page. If there is only one poll open, that will be the one showing. If more than one are open, you may need to click on more polls.

message 31: by Penny (new)

Penny Agatha Christie for me please!!

Penny, did you vote in the poll? It'll show up at the bottom of the group home page, or you can select 'poll' near the top right of the screen.

It looks like we have our winners for November:

The Diva Runs Out of Thyme (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #1) by Krista Davis The Diva Runs Out of Thyme by Krista Davis

Murder on the Ghost Walk (Magnolia Mysteries, #1) by Ellen Elizabeth Hunter Murder on the Ghost Walk by Ellen Elizabeth Hunter

message 34: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 1410 comments My library system doesn't have either book!

message 35: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 201 comments Don't have Murder on the Ghost Walk...and can't find it anywhere. And I voted for the darned thing!

message 36: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
My library doesn't have it either. I put in an ILL for Murder on the Ghost Walk and hope they can get it!

I'm going to set up another poll with the other three books. We'll have three books for November, Murder on the Ghost Walk will a bonus book since a lot of people may not be able to get hold of it.

The poll is up and will run through Saturday.

It looks like somehow two polls got set up and you have votes on both. Don't know how you fix that!

message 39: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Thanks for letting me know Lynn! I've deleted one, but will remember to add the 3 votes on it to the current poll results.

message 40: by Becky (new)

Becky | 3 comments My votes would be for Murder on the Ghost Walk (I offer ghost walks at my B&B) and Turkey Day Murder. Since many may not be able to get the ghost walk book my third choice would be Witches Bane.

message 41: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Becky - did you vote in any of the polls?

message 42: by Becky (new)

Becky | 3 comments No. :( closed before I had a chance to even look at these posts. I actually find it a bit difficult to navigate goodreads site. I'm still learning it. :)

message 43: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 1410 comments Becky, one poll is still open. Go to the top of this page. On the right hand corner you will see the word 'poll.' You enter there to vote on our third book.

I just noticed that PBS is showing "Hallowe'en Party" tonight. I'm recording it, so if it wins the poll and I don't have a chance to read it, I'll still know what's going on :)

message 48: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Well, it looks like the third poll resulted in a tie! I've decided we're just going to have to have four books for November. That way there should be something for everyone :)

Hallowe'en Party (Hercule Poirot #36) by Agatha Christie Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie
