I would like to invite you to read my new novel Stars and Crosses. My protagonist Chic Lucas is the Polish American son of a man whose father had been imprisoned in Auschwitz and whose mother had been a slave laborer in Germany. After his father passes away from a stroke, he decides to visit Poland to learn about his father's life from relatives and visit his father's hometown. While there, he meets Ruth Mintz, a Jewish American woman whose mother was also a victim of Nazi German atrocities. She is there to attend a Holocaust memorial event and to attempt to reclaim land formerly belonging to her mother. The story follows Chic and Ruth's search into their respective families' background. While a work of fiction, the work is well-documented regarding the historical aspects. I attended a summer class about Jewish history at the University of Warsaw, several excellent classes about the Holocaust at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and visited Poland another time with a Jewish group. I also interviewed several survivors of that period. The thrust of the book is mainly how different groups view the events of World War Ii in Poland. I don't really try to solve anything but wanted to present a meaningful look at those varying perspectives and tell an entertaining story along the way. I hope I've succeeded.
