How it works around here is pretty simple. Just read thru the threads and join in the conversation whenever you feel like it. We're a friendly group and enjoy talking about a variety of things.
Some of my favorite series include, Robert Crais's, Joe Pike and Elvis Cole series. The first in the series is The Watchman. I know you'll get more recommendations.
The first Joe Pike story is The Watchman and it has the same supporting cast as the Elvis Cole stories... it's actually Elvis Cole 13 or something like that. It is listed as "Joe Pike #1" and serves well. No need to read the Elvis Cole stories to enjoy this one.
I love Joe Pike.
The Elvis Cole stories start with Robert Crais's The Monkey's Raincoat. Joe is his side kick there, though, I haven't read this one.
Joe Pike's just cool!
You might like the Pendergast stories which actually start with Reliquary and Relic but I'm told Pendergast doesn't really take over as "the main man" until the third book The Cabinet of Curiosities all by Preston and Childs.
I also like Dark Of The Moon by John Sandford about the way too casual redneck..."dude"... Virgil Flowers solving crimes in Rural Minnesota. I love the Virgil flowers stories (there are 5 now) and this is a spin off from John Sanford's "Prey" Series.. which starts with Rules Of Prey staring his Detective with the Iron Jacketed heart, Lucas Davenport.
If you don't mind a female lead a, J.A. Konrath's wonderful Jack Daniels (short for Jaquilyn) is a 12 book series that is enjoyable to read. That starts with Whiskey Sour
My favorite of all of these, for other reasons than mentioned here is the infmamous "Patrick Bowers" written by Steven James from The Pawn the first of a 6 book and counting series. The sixth book reads like the first in this series, but I think you'll miss some important plot and character stuff if you read it first. Make your own choice there. It'll be a good read, but not as good as the Pawn.
And there are more...
Oh, and welcome to the group!

Also a fan of the Whiskey Sour series!
One of these days I have to read, The Pawn.
Yep, just remember, the real spiritual message comes out through Tessa (Raven).
I'm just sayin...
Yeah with Vigri Flowers, all you have to remember is what they called him in the "Prey" Series with Lucas Davenport was "Taht F****ng Flowers!"

Hi Declan, you might enjoy The Gray Man if you like Reacher. He is pretty darn fierce. Welcome to AAA!
If your a Sci-fi guy, I'm enjoying the hell out of the Spinward Fringe Series by Randolph LaLonde.
It's action packed, no doubt about that. It's a fun story and the first one is free if you read e-books.

How about a link big guy... ;-)

Pendergast also has a cameo in Thunderhead, which by all accounts is a stand alone novel.

Okay the first book (free) is
Origins. That's an anthology. You can get it at Amazon.com for Kindle and I think there are paper copies out there (which of course you have to pay for.
This is his website:
http://randolphlalonde.blogspot.com/
and here's where he's put a synopsis of spinward fringe (remember that some of these were novellas put together to make a whole book (Origins).

There are links to Amazon.coom for his books and to "Smashwords.com"

Hi, Edward. We do not allow self-promotion on this thread. You can use the Promotions folder and the Writer-Reader Interface for promoting your books, and we also have a Member Author program. As such, I am deleting your post.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Also try amazonia by james rollins
I second the comments on the John Langford novels too....Winter Prey was a good one!

If you want something a bit more down to earth, set in 1940s Glasgow, try the Douglas Brodie series by Gordon Ferris - The Hanging Shed, Bitter Water, Pilgrim Soul, and Gallowglass.
All solid reads, but couldn't be any different in style.

Enjoy!

I am new to here. 1st post and not too sure how it works.
I am currently reading through the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child and love it. I'm interested in trying new authors with similar plots, characters etc.. What would you recommend? I like a book with a good twist and suspense. Hope this helps
