Well we have a new month and a new year and the author of the month will be Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. Any book by Yrsa is good to read.

Andreea (andraf) | 5 comments Picked up My Soul to Take today. I'm a big fan of Arnaldur Indridason and I'm looking forward to discovering a new Icelandic writer.

Yes you can, always and see if there is something you didn't get the first time reading it.

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 236 comments Just ordered The Day is Dark. Love to read Yrsa's blog Murder is Everywhere. She is not on all the time but when she is she is fascinating. Will reread Ashes to dust too. Thanks Kenneth Your contributions to this site are so good and so helpful.

Fiona (neferankh) | 9 comments Just finished I Remember You. It is chilling and I sat up until 4 am to finish it. Read all of her other novels translated into English and enjoyed them all.

message 8: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 1 comments I've read every one of her books. I love them. I am glad to see she is getting more attention!

Maureen (cookingmylife) | 8 comments Ashes to Dust is ready for my library pickup tomorrow!

Danielle Lewis (lewis038) | 1 comments I bought Ashes to Dust for my Kindle. Looking forward to reading it. Mostly I have read Swedish and Norwegian books until now.

I ordered The Day is Dark because I haven't read it so far. I wanted to see what she is going to do with Greenland?

message 12: by Susan (new)

Susan (susanthomas) I'll be reading with you, Kenneth. Just downloaded The Day is Dark on my Kindle.

Just got it in so I'll start it as soon as I finish Lethal Investments by Kjell Ola Dahl.

message 14: by Maureen (new)

Maureen (cookingmylife) | 8 comments Apparently, I had Last Rituals on hold - I do try to read the series books in order - and liked it. After some of the heavier Scandi books, this one almost seemed like a bit of fluff. However, I can believe Thora has promise and look forward to the next few books.

message 15: by Oonagh (new)

Oonagh | 3 comments An Iclandic author suits me fine as I'm preparing my journey there in the summer.
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy Last Rituals very much, but I'll try and pick one of the other suggested books. At present I'm also trying to get some of the Sagas. I was inspired to do so by Michael Ridpath's Where the Shadows Lie. Currently I'm struggling through the Volsung tale mentioned there.

message 16: by Susan (new)

Susan (susanthomas) About 100 pgs in on The Day is Dark and ready for the pace to pick up. So far it's all setting the stage for what's to come, and I'm getting anxious to see where things go.

message 17: by Qirat (new)

Qirat | 1 comments I shall certainly try one of her books, as soon as I finish smilla's sense of snow. Haven't read as many Scandi novelists, but definitely enjoying my read right now.

message 18: by Junebug (new)

Junebug | 11 comments Before your trip to Iceland I suggest reading An Independent People by Haldor Laxness. I believe he received the Nobel prize for his writings about Iceland. Enjoy your trip. I was there a few years ago and was fascinated by the history, geology, and beauty of the county. Take a dip in the Blue Lagoon.

message 19: by Ian (new)

Ian | 35 comments I will be reading I Remember You next. Can't wait - have loved each of the first 4 of her novels. An Icelandic friend of mine says that I Remember You is the best of the bunch...and not just because it doesn't have Thora in it!

message 20: by Maureen (new)

Maureen (cookingmylife) | 8 comments Enjoying My Soul to Take. Nicely creepy.

I finished The Day is Dark and found it wanting for Bella and Matthew for more of there action. It was good from the point of view that the new characters that were developed functioned in a way that befitted them. I have a map fetish and googled several of the villages.

message 22: by Richard (new)

Richard (ricoh) | 42 comments Wow - it is so good to pick up on all the good vibes about Yrsa Sigurðardóttir's work. I simply adore her books and have started I Remember You. It is like putting on a good pair of walking shoes as you embark on reading one of her books.
Someone to Watch Over Me is due out on 09.05.2013 in the UK - Thora 5. The work of the translator should also be mentioned as the books read so well in English.
So pleased so many people are enjoying her novels.

message 23: by Sue (new)

Sue | 81 comments Just collected Last Rituals. Wanted to leave a gap between Nesbo and this one. Have to ration my scandi books or would read nothing else. Nice comments so looking forward to a new writer.

Yours is a common occurrence. I find that after 5 or 6 scandi books I have to change to something more comical or something less exotic. Andrea Camilleri, Martin Walker, Cara Black, Alexander Campion, Robert Wilson.

message 25: by Susan (new)

Susan (susanthomas) Finished The Day is Dark. Not my favorite NN series (that honor still belongs to Nesbo and Harry Hole), but interesting in its own right.

The only book I haven't read is I Remember You. Is it worth buying Ian, since you have it.

message 27: by Ian (new)

Ian | 35 comments I'm about half way through it. It's different from the Thora books but the story is gripping (and apparently based on a true story) and as usual there's the Yrsa combination of humour with the darkness of the human condition!!!
Well worth buying IMO

message 28: by Elizabeth (last edited Jan 20, 2013 02:57AM) (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 236 comments I will be anxious to get "I Remember You" now with that review. I am addicted to Yrsa.

message 29: by Richard (new)

Richard (ricoh) | 42 comments "I Remember You" appears to be a stand alone novel but Yrsa has left it open for a sequel; perhaps cos she has sold the movie rights. Above all it demonstrates her wonderful ability all of us fans already knew she tells a cracking story

message 30: by Andreea (new)

Andreea (andraf) | 5 comments I've finished My Soul to Take about a week ago. I've liked it, enough to buy another Yrsa book, "The Day is Dark". Let's see if I can finish it by the end of January.

message 31: by Richard (new)

Richard (ricoh) | 42 comments Good to see you hooked

message 32: by Ian (new)

Ian | 35 comments Yrsa hooked me after the first chapter of Last Rituals.
Still going with I Remember You...and in typical Yrsa style I'm confused. Just when I thought I'd got it something happens to completely throw me. Excellent stuff

I'm with Elizabeth and I am looking at England or Canada to get I Remember You, Paperback.

message 34: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 236 comments Finished "The Day is Dark"! Wow!!!

message 35: by Ian (new)

Ian | 35 comments OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just finished I Remember You - absolutely AWESOME. As Richard said though Yrsa has left it open for a possible sequel. There were a few questions left unanswered IMO - but overall it was utterly brilliant

message 36: by Sue (new)

Sue | 81 comments First time I've ever read anything by Yrsa-Last Rituals. So glad there are many more to read. Really enjoying it and no idea what has gone on.

Can only agree with Richard. They just get better and better. Yrsa is absolutely wonderful

message 39: by Fiona (last edited Jan 29, 2013 10:47PM) (new)

Fiona (neferankh) | 9 comments Read them all. I found I Remember You especially chilling. Finding wet footprints and what I thought was sand(turned out to be brown sugar) in my kitchen at 5 am on the morning I finished it gave me quite a turn.

message 40: by Mary (new)

Mary (maryschumacher) | 25 comments Just as January is ending, I got Last Rituals from the library. Looking forward to it.

Ian (pepecan) | 350 comments Bit late but just started My Soul to Take by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir .

message 42: by Ian (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 350 comments And how good was that.......vast improvement on no 1 in the series, despite reservations about the hotel owner character who I thought was totally unbelievable. Also wish Mathew would get more involved. He is supposed to be an ex detective. Otherwise great.....had me guessing whodunnit right till the end.
