Tony Bayliss It’s January 1957, a young boy, soon to reach his tenth birthday, begins to write a diary. Macmillan is Prime Minister, post-war austerity stills grips the Country, and the marriage of the boy’s parents is on the rocks. He feels out of place and alone, as his family disintegrates around him, and the diary becomes his friend and confidante. He tells us about his mother’s lovers, his father’s brutality, his boyish pranks, his friends and teachers at school, and his experiments with the opposite sex.

His writing is direct, frank, funny, and heart-rending. December will come too soon.
