Sara Bartlett | 4 comments I discovered Charles Todd work first with A Test of Wills, then The Murder Stone. I just read Legacy of the Dead and was left searching for more to be revealed to understand that ending! I'd like to hear from others who have read Charles Todd's books that include "Hamish" as his constant companion. I've been reading this group for a few months but his is my first post.

Jan C (woeisme) | 39180 comments Well, welcome to your first post.

I enjoy the Charles Todd books. I've been invited to take part in several discussions with them here on GR.

I'm not sure I remember enough about the ending of Legacy of the Dead to discuss it without more of a hint.

I'm trying to get back to A Cold Treachery right now.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9980 comments I just finished A Matter Of Justice by Charles Todd. I thought I remembered that previous Ian Rutledge mysteries by Todd were sort of thrillers - with Rutledge being involved in some physical scuffles, etc. This book though was structured almost like a cozy (just a lot of questioning the suspects, etc.). Am I remembering wrong?

The theme was a child born and taken to be raised by another woman who was later accused of the mothers murder. The woman murdered was the child of the king, born by a consort whose husband then raised her as his own. The ending hinted that the child was actually born to a woman whose husband was not the father, then the actual grandfather might have fathered a child to a woman married to another man... But it was never said or explained. The book just ENDED. What did you think?

Yes this book was lots of questioning not action. I was left hanging and needing more, don't plan to read more Todd books.
