Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Nominate an Author for a year long buddy read!

Do you have an author that you would like to read regularly throughout 2013? A buddy-read; something like a book each month with other interested members?

During November, nominate in this thread the author whose backlist you would like to dedicate some time to next year. Key considerations:
* Nominations will close 30 November.
* The author must have at least 20 books on their backlist.
* You may nominate more than one author.
* If the 'winning' author writes under more than one name, then all name combinations will be eligible to be read in the 2013 challenge.

In December, all interested members will then vote on the nominated authors they would like to group buddy read. You may vote for multiple authors, but only once for each author. (That is, you could try to vote for one author more than once, but we will only count your first vote.) Only one author will be chosen, and naturally it will be the author with the most votes. We'll close the votes on Boxing Day (26 December) and announce the most popular author on 27 December (to ease the overall let-down of the post-Christmas festivities :)

If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, have a look at the two annual buddy reads from this year: A Year of JD Robb and A Year of Arcane Series. We also did one in 2011 with A Year of Georgette Heyer.

Any questions can be posted in this thread.

So get interactive and get nominating!

MountainKat | 31601 comments Oh, I would love a reason to read Kresley Cole's IAD series! I plan to reread the first couple again in audio and hope to actually continue and get current at some point! I am not sure how quickly they are going to be released though and I know they aren't all out in audio yet.

I like many of the other suggestions too!

Other ideas, perhaps Nalini Singh? Or Pamela Clare?

message 7: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I'll throw Nalini and Pamela on the nominations table, MKat :)

I was thinking along the IAD lines, but my prob is I want to do them all in audio - as usual DRM restrictions hit me :( But by the time it comes around, perhaps some more will be available to me :)

I don't think they are all available in the US yet, I don't know what the release schedule is either. I want to do them in audio myself! Maybe this is one that might be better to wait on no matter how anxious I am.

message 10: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments The IAD books are not all published on audio yet. They did the first few and then #5 will be available on Nov. 1st (I preordered already from Audible) but I'm not sure about the rest (there's nothing about them in the author's site.)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments I am doing this with several authors, right now and it's great.

I would nominate Elizabeth Lowell or Christina Dodd
Also Jennifer Ashleyand all her psuedonyms.

Also, there is a buddy read of Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series, that just started last month. Anyone is welcome to join in. We are reading Night Game (GhostWalkers, #3) by Christine Feehan starting Nov 8th.

Woohoo! I thought it was just my usual DRM hassle :) Now I'm happier.

I can't get #4 - Dark Needs at Night's Edge on Audible :( Do you have this one available to you in the US?

I still haven't read a Danielle Steel! No idea why as they were all the rage in high school (I think)...

That one is supposed to be released on November 1st here. It is available for pre-order - audible just started making that available - on my account.

I haven't either, though I remember my mom reading a number of them when I was younger. I just keep getting distracted by other authors and series.

It's a blank on my account :( Maybe once it is issued, they will open it up internationally...

Hahaha too true! Hopefully I'll have more time now that I have a new job with less stress and time commitment. Just need to get a new library card once I move.....

And while I'm here, I'll go ahead and throw out an author not on the list yet..... Linda Howard :)

They also crossed my mind, I have to say, Breann - I just didn't have as many TBRs on my list :)

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 561 comments I know she's got a buddy read this year - but I didn't get a chance to do it (too many other books). So would it be wrong to suggest J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts for next year?

God knows she's got more than enough books on her back catalogue - and i'm only up to Holiday in Death.

message 24: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Linda Howard is another author I've been wanting to try...

message 25: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I think that the girls doing the JD Robb buddy read are going to continue this next year

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 561 comments They're reading them in order though aren't they (I'm quite a long way behind them)? Whereas this challenge isn't quite as restrictive.

Yes, we are definitely continuing the buddy read next year. Anyone is welcome to lurk, join in whenever they wish. Some of the women read them out of order, so they jump in when they feel like it.

I just finished the first one, so it looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. Hopefully I'll be able to join in next year at some point!

And Jane....I started reading romance a few years ago with Linda Howard. I've read most of her works now, and have enjoyed them all. It took me a while to read my first Nora Roberts (and now JD Robb). Danielle Steel is next on my list. hahaha

I just found #4!! *Whheeeee* It doesn't show in the main series list, but comes up in the 'Coming Soon' list. Perhaps I won't go barging down the doors of stupid publishers just yet...

Yeah, I'm noticing that at audible too. It seems like the new feature (pre-ordering) isn't fully integrated yet. The good news is that there are more books available to pre-order every time I look!

Hi Janet - I've been looking through our nominations and realised that Angela Hunt won't qualify: GR has only 11 distinct books listed. We need at least 20 books on the author's list.

Might have to make Angela a monthly buddy read :)
