dely | 368 comments I had to borrow Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman.
I absolutely wanted to read this book but couldn't find it at the secondhand bookshop and it is too expensive to buy (34 euro!) and so I went to the library.

I really enjoyed Purple Hibiscus and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Julia (juliastrimer) I buy so few books now that I'm in a retirement community with one small bookcase in my one bedroom apartment--the library has become my best friend :-)

However, I just purchased Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances by Neil Gaiman and The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro. Can't let these two authors pass by--and I just purchased my third copy of Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, since I keep giving that one to friends. When Terry Pratchett died recently, I wanted to put the book back on my shelves; he and Neil Gaiman had so much fun writing it, and Gaiman's tributes to Pratchett are very moving.

LindaJ^ (lindajs) Not that I needed any more books for my TBR shelf, but when to Longfellow's Books today because former U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell was there, signing his memoir The Negotiator: A Memoir. What a gracious man! And, while I was there I also bought two novels -- The Book of Aron: A novel by Jim Shepard and A History of Loneliness by John Boyne. Boyne is one of the Irish authors whose books I enjoy.

message 13: by Loukia (new)

Loukia Borrell | 13 comments I recently bought "Ripley's Game." I have read the first two Ripley novels by Patricia Highsmith - "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Ripley Under Ground." "Ripley's Game" is the third. I am not big on crime fiction, but I will make an exception with Tom Ripley: He is much too sick to ignore.

Moushine Zahr | 86 comments Hello all,

Technically speaking I neither bought nor borrowed books today. I won the 1st prize of the Morocco Mall's Fnac culture store's April book lottery. I won 100 books I selected during 1h30 among a pre-selection of the store. Those 100 books have a value of about 2.500 USD. I chose mostly literature novels from diverse origins and also a few books on fine arts.

With so many books to read, deciding which one to read first is a difficult choice. However, I miss reading books in English; therefore, I am going to read first the only 4 novels in English I found:

The last runaway by Tracy Chevalier
lost memory of skin by russell banks
Stumbling giant by Timothy Beardson
End this depression now by Paul Krugman
