Cate | 6 comments I have a lot of stuff going on right now and can't concentrate on or spend as much time as I like reading. Can any one recommend a light/easy read from the list? Thanks!

Ravenskya (ravenskya) Good Omens, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Yellow Wallpaper. I'll think of more for you later.

Galen Johnson (galenj) | 33 comments Rebecca goes very quickly and is engrossing, Casino Royale is a quick read and doesn't require much concentration--same with Get Shorty. Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night-Time is also quick, The Cement Garden is a quick read although dark. Choke is a fast read, although some people don't like it because it is fairly explicit about sexuality and language. The Things They Carried goes quickly, but is difficult subject matter (the Vietnam War). The Secret History is another engrossing read, but doesn't require too much concentration. I thought Felicia's Journey was a quick read, but another one that is a bit dark. Some of H.G. Wells' books are short and don't require too much concentration, and The Picture of Dorian Gray is short and not too hard to keep track of. (Not all of these are on both lists, but I liked all of them...so I think they are worth reading whether they are on the list you are reading from or not).

Ravenskya (ravenskya) I forgot about all of the Wells and Wilde works... I recommend them both, they are generally short, sweet, and quite easy to follow for when your brain is in a more relaxed mood

Michelle (fireweaver) | 99 comments hey Cate, if you click on the group's bookshelf, someone has tagged a double handful of the list books as quick reads:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

dunno if that meshes up to other people's opinions, but at least it's somewhere to start.

Cate | 6 comments Thanks so much Galen, Kristen, Michelle. This should help get me through this busy time. I need to read to stay sane regardless of what is going on!!

Christina Stind | 180 comments One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich is also a short read. And an amazing book.

Stephanie (sbez05) | 32 comments I found Never Let Me Go to be a quick read and very good.

Ravenskya (ravenskya) Is [Book: Lamb the Gospel According to Biff] on the list? If so, then there's your winner.

Judith (jloucks) | 1202 comments Lucky Jim is short, light and funny! Also, Miss Pettigrew Lives for A Day.

I would not have listed some of the ones others have because the subject matter is too serious, even dark; but that is a subjective judgment, of course.

Chel | 380 comments H. Rider Haggard's books are a quick read and so is most Vonnegut. The English Patient goes by fast although it is over 300 pgs. Good luck!

I loved this book. It still haunts me.

message 13: by Erin (new)

Erin The Breast was a quick read for me (even if I didn't like it), and so were Reasons To Live, I, Robot, Of Mice & Men, Cold Comfort Farm, and the Postman Rings Twice. Also any of the Edgar Allen Poe stories are short and fun.

message 14: by Rory M. (new)

Rory M. | 27 comments I would recommend Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel.

message 15: by Megan (new)

Megan Lyons | 14 comments Drop City is the lightest read I have taken from the list recently.
