Regina McCreary (soapygina) | 4 comments Hi,

This doesn't look like a very active group, but I have been collecting books from the booker prize shortlist for quite a long while and have decided to make a point of actually reading them. My method is one old one, one new one, working my way toward the middle where I have already read lots. I am hoping there are others here who have read some of the older ones and would be interested in discussing them.

Sabrina (buttegirl) | 1 comments Hi, Regina! I've been interested in reading bunches of Bookers myself. :) I like your approach of one old, one new... I'm happy to read along and discuss!

Lesley Hi Regina, Hi Sabrina, I have only read seven winners so far so would be keen to read along as well. Those I have read are more recent winners. I particularly enjoyed True History of the Kelly Gang.

Neenee Hi, everybody. I'm a new member from Malaysia. I love collecting Booker long n short list books.

Lesley Hi Neenee. Which is your favourite Booker list book so far?

Neenee Hi, Lesley!

It is quite difficult but I think it's the Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry. It didn't win so it doesn't count, isn't it? So far I only managed to read only three Man Booker Prize winners. I like The White Tiger better than Life of Pi and the Gathering.

What do you think about this year's shortlist?

Regina McCreary (soapygina) | 4 comments Hi Neenee and Lesley,

I often find that the one I like best in a given year isn't the winner but that is likely a result of the fact that when it is a jury who chooses, it is always everyone's second favourite that gets consensus. Admittedly I have only managed to read the whole shortlist for a couple of the years so it is pretty hard to second guess the jury.

It is incredibly hard to pick a favourite over all but there are those that have stuck with me more than others Alias Grace, English Passengers, Atonement, Cloud Atlas to name a handful. To me, the best thing about this list is that it seldom disappoints.

Neenee Yes, I agree.

Another thing, we get a glimpse of so many cultures from the list every year. Now, they also include authors from the States. It is quite exciting.
