Byron (byft) Tell us a thought for an activity.. or something you want to see...

This is your group. Your suggestions will keep the group moving along.

Kylie | 8 comments Day of Silence Info and Opinions. I teach high school and I sponsor their GSA. The kids want to participate but do not want to bring a negative light on the club if they look rude by not responding to teachers verbally that day.

Kaje Harper | 17369 comments I'm going to start a thread for this in "Questions" - perhaps you can expand a bit for those unfamiliar with this and explain how it works.

Discussion here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

It would be kind of cool to have a weekly book discussion, where you can pick any book suitable for the YA audience and that has LGBT themes and you get a week to discuss it. We could separate it from the book of the month and you would get to learn about books that some might not have read and others would get to discuss their favourite books...

You're thinking let one group member a week pick a favorite to discuss?

Yeah, pretty much. It would be fair that way and everyone has the chance at being included. It would be an ice breaker for some of the newer members too.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) I'm going to put this here because it is clearly something for the moderators to discuss rather than the members.
How about the idea of asking the YA LGBT publishing (sites) to sponsor a book of the month?
For example: A publisher of YA LGBT could be offered the chance/opportunity to have a book (selected by the YA LGBT group members) to be read and reviewed as book of the month.
They could be asked if they would be willing to put up say 6 different titles in the month of _______ for free as a book of a month.
With one or two days of free downloads (somewhere after the title has been selected like the 1st and 2nd of the month). In exchange they get the group to review said title.

You could point out that goodreads is a great way to get their books noticed, that you offer resource lists for schools and work to promote positive reflections on and for the Youth of the LGBT and Non LGBT communities so.. it would be a good karma kind of thing?
You never know who would be interested unless you ask.
Just thinking here feel free to say pass.

Jo Ramsey (Jo_Ramsey) | 1017 comments A general suggestion about the group... I've noticed that there are a LOT of threads where no one's posted for a year or more, and it can sometimes be difficult to find the current threads amongst the out-of-date ones. Is it possible to delete some of the old, unused threads or at least move them to an archive section? It might make it easier for members to participate in current discussions. Just a thought.

We do have archives - just haven't been cleaning up. Yes, that's pretty easy to do.

I saw this and thought it would be a fun future prompt.

Kaje Harper | 17369 comments Heh. I think it just barely falls in our guidelines for YA, so hang onto it for next month.
