The Lost Colony discussion

I was enjoying this book up until the part where they do the switch at Taipai 101. Then I got insanely confused. Can anybody help me?

What were you confused about? They switch, Number 1 goes w/ the bad guys, and the girl goes w/ Butler and Artemis.

I bet I know what you're confused about. Number 1 dematerialized and then, instead of going back to the colony, he reappeared elsewhere in the building. Is that what you're confused about?

Silver anchors people (or fairies) to the land they are in. Number 1 took off his silver bracelet just before the exchange and started to dematerialize.

That building had an enormous silver counterweight to keep if from swaying too much in the wind. The counterweight was so big that it anchored Number 1 to that location.
