I have 25 books out from the library. None overdue, because I just finished Live by Night by Dennis Lehane, returned it, and paid the overdue fine.

Carol, you always give me a chuckle ;) I panic when I have two books checked out at the same time ;) On a good note, I think I'm #66 for Black Box!

Right now I'm reading a book that I'm committed to review on Kindle. That's why all those library books are going back unread. I have another book that I'd committed to review waiting, and yet another in that category that I finished, but haven't had time to review because the one I'm currently reading has a posting deadline. I think I'm going to have to stop making review commitments soon since I'm going to be a teaching assistant for a class this spring and I have to start preparing for that in December.

My current library books total only eight, and four of them are audio books, two on Kindle. I have taken back 2-3 print books a week - sadly unread (!) for several weeks and am at a low tide point right now, with two on the hold shelf.

I'm telling you! I better decide now who my one call goes to, LOL.

Amy, I like the way you think!

Susie, you know things are bad when I'm hoping for Black Box NOT to come in!

take that money and save it for the bail fund.

finally! a kindred spirit! You and Ann, Shomeret!

Ann, I'm listening to The Casual Vacancy now. I'm finally getting into the groove, but at the beginning there were so many characters being introduced that I was having a hard time keeping them straight. I know everyone warned that this is not the Harry Potter series, but my expectations still were that the imagination that created that unique world would be evident here. I'm not sure it is but it's too early to pass judgment.

Sadly not, Ann! But thanks for the attempt to bring it down to a reasonable number.

I am keeping one step ahead of library fine truancy by renewing the ones I can. However, I had to bump up A Wanted Man because I know I won't be able to renew that one. So at some point these books I keep renewing and not getting to will come due.

I think I'd need to be on heavy drugs to do this, which would sort of defeat the purpose.

Then ... everyone else on the hold lists realize they don't really have unlimited time to read and start cancelling their holds so that all of mine come in...
Today there are four to pick up; add them to my six out (and two electronic loaned books) and you have Library Saturday on steroids again! Woo Hoo!
Who needs a twelve step program.. Lol.

Who will be standing at the door to the twelve step meeting waving you in, LOL?
I still have about 25 books out, including the 3 waiting for me when I went in yesterday to return A Wanted Man (overdue) and Mad River (award for returning the earliest!). I am starting The Red House Mystery which is a couple of days overdue, and have three due on the 27th that I can't renew any more so I'll have to return (and then re-request). This is a merry-go-round!

While at the library I picked up two books on hold: Roseanna, first in the series by Maj Sowall, and Ceremony in Death, next for me in the Eve Dallas series. The latter was on CD, but since I am always in need of a listen, and upload them for when I am ready, I decided to scan the stacks. Found three more: The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon (not my usual genre but I have always wanted to read a Chabon and my BFF and I were discussing this one on Sunday), Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri (love her; she is the most delicious short story writer) and Prime Suspect by Lynda LaPlante (love the TV series and LaPlante is a master). The good news is since these are all audios I'll churn through these quickly or at least feel like I can return them on time because I've uploaded the disks. On the other hand... 25 books!!!??!!??!!??!?! I keep waiting for the librarians to say "now hold on a second, are you really going to read these books?" but they don't bat an eyelash. I wonder if now this is some sort of compulsion to see how many books they'll let me borrow, LOL.
