Yes. It helps us improve, and we can add some constructive criticism. Most of us have enough self esteem, and most of us are kind enough not to rub it in. Competition is the thing that drives us to do. Otherwise I would be in some kiddie class with a cheap violin, still be playing on those tacky electric key boards, and have B's in every class. Besides pride, it's the only thing that keeps us standing.

Only people with low self esteem lose hope.

Jin | 281 comments I think competitions are very important in our lives. For example, I go to piano competitions every year. I never got 1st place but whenever I went to competitions, I improved more than I did before the competition.
But, you must remember this, never to lose hope even though you lose because you didn't. You won to have more experiences, more chances later, and better skills than before.

Competitions show us how good we are. We also have fun and we can see what we need to work on. The people need to keep trying and try to get 1st place. Just because they lost one time doesn't mean they have to give op hope. They must forge ahead, see their goals in their heart and never give up. If you can't go on, then you can't do anything. You need to take the risks and go ahead. No one can always take the easy path out. The people who always hard every single day of their lives and can beat the people with special talents. Just because you are talented doesn't mean you are good. It just means that you were luckier than some other people. The people who weren't born with much talent are not that good, but they try even harder, trying to surpass the people with all the talents. In the end, the people who work hard every single day of their lives will beat the people with the special talents. I think that competitions are really good and should be part of our daily lives. You always have a chance. Don't give up.

We would all feel the same. No difference. We wouldn't know who did better or not.

DJ (pseudonymjohndoe) | 23 comments Seconded. To a degree. Competition without idiot gloating winners, or sore losers. (competition with sportsmanship) I don't think that very much would get done without competition. That is the big argument with socialization and communism. What motivates you to do any better if you are rewarded equaly if you get first, third, twenty-second, or one million three thousand four hundred and sixty second? Nothing except yourself, and we all know how much motivation people have when they are left to reward themselves.

That is true. But in this world, that doesn't happen too often.

The problem with communism is that while it works in theory, in practice, it's much harder to achieve due to corruption and blatant favoritism.

That's why it sucks...(sorry for bad language!!!) What's your view on socialism?
