I'm going to read "Practical Magic." Thanks for the picks!"

Yes, I am an utterly tragic squee Twilight fangirl. I've read the deleted scenes, the extras, the fanfic. Don't tell anyone.

How about we pretend you picked Bitten for me (I already have it on reserve! Third in queue le blah), and after I've read it I can thank you? ;) Does that sound okay or is it totally counter-productive to the mission of the challenge?

message 102: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) haha... under the circumstances, that works for me. :) It's probably counterproductive for this challenge, but I think we're a special case.

message 103: by ♥Tricia♥ (new)

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 407 comments Aye you guys are a special case, and again am sorry about that.

Usually we will want to choose something not in their TBR list :)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Tricia wrote: "Usually we will want to choose something not in their TBR list :) "

My TBR list is about 30 books. But my unread list is nearing 2000 books on here now. I don't mind a bit someone (another time) picking a book off there as it just means it's found a way into my home but doesn't necessarily mean I intend to read it anytime soon. lol Need a nudge to pick some of them up.

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 407 comments I just finished 50 ways to hex your lover and it was delightful!
I am actually now hoping there is a second or third book, where she tells those damn stuck up witches that banished her to stuff it!

I'm glad it worked for you Tammy.
::grins broadly::

PS. Silver Kiss is not bad either, but Blood and Chocolate makes one of my favs in the genre.

Kasia Jessi, I've just put down Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian Series, Book 1) by Keri Arthur .

Fluff and naughty, but fun. For me, you've picked spot on. Thank you very much for nudging me to read it. Now, I'm hooked and I'll continue with the series and it's all your fault!

Kidding.
Thanks.
A lot.

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Jes

I'm hoping that The hunger games arrives in time! I'm 3rd on the list at the library and we have 5 copies, all of which are out.
If it's getting too close, I'll let you know.

I so glad that you liked it! I really enjoyed the series.

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Jes - The Hunger Games arrived safe & well & in time, and I've just devoured it!
You're right - it was right up my alley. Dystopian/post-apocalyptic novels have always intrigued me.
For me, parts of the storyline were reminiscent of Gillian Rubenstein's Galax-Arena - children put into a arena to fight for the entertainment of others. [Galax-Arena has a very creepy reason - not just to control the masses:].
I'm glad there's more coming as I couldn't totally warm to Katniss - she came across as somewhat controlled in her emotions. So, I'm hoping that she sorts herself out in the next book/s. Mind you, who wasn't totally confused in how they felt, and who they loved, at 16! Peeta was a bit too goody-goody, but much more sympathetic. [The romance reader in me snuck out.:]
I'm now going to ask the library to buy the sequel.
Thanks for the recommendation! Can't believe this slipped through my notice - though it must be known out there, as there are a lot of people waiting for the library copies.
For future pick-it-for-me I must update my goodreads shelves!

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 407 comments Its getting closer to the end of the month and I fear I might not have the time (what with work really picking up for the summer) to lead another pick it for me challenge.

So Yz if you wish to take over that would be great :) If people are interested in continuing with this challenge.

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Got it, Tricia. It's just barely half of the month, but once we hit the 20th I'll ask and see if we have enough interest to go another round for April.

Thanks so far for organizing everything. I, for one, enjoy this challenge.

Amanda A | 769 comments I really enjoyed Falling Awake by Jayne Ann Krentz, Glori! Thanks for picking a really good one! I am really looking forward to reading more of her books.

So. I finished Love the One You're With this morning. Overall, I enjoyed the book mostly because this is a good writer and storyteller. I, however, was a bit uncomfortable with the book. I'm not a fan of the subject of this book. I got upset with the main characters potential to cheat. I was upset at her destructive relationship with Leo and her almost obession with him. I wasn't happy with the ending either. Giffin is such a good storyteller though that it made for a quick read, but the whole story affected me badly. I was like that with the Shopaholic books by Kinsella. All of Becky's crazy debt made my stomach ache! I was the same way with Ellen in this book. Glad I read it though. Thanks for recommendation.

I agree with you about the cheating thing. I felt the same way when I read it. I read it first and foremost because I liked the author. I have and will continue to read anything by her. This one wasn't my favorite by her, but, like you, I'm glad I read it. I picked it for you for the same reason that I read it. You had read her other books. Will you continue to read Giffin's novels whenever they come out?

message 126: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Barbara,

I finished The Dark One by Ronda Thompson. It was a solid historical romance with a paranormal twist. I enjoyed it, and have added the rest of the titles in the series. It's a shame that the author died. That saddened me when I found ou.

Again, thanks for the recommendation.

Definitely. I really like her writing style. It's always so smooth even though she's talking present and past on the same page. She's descriptive without being too descriptive and she tends to have "real" characters. I always feel that the characters could be someone I know and the things happening were being told to me by them.

message 128: by Nikki ♥ (new)

Nikki ♥ I couldn'd find my first pick in paperback, so I picked the second choice to read.
I'll be starting Dream Country by Luanne Rice this weekend.

message 129: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) Moss, I've been working on Practical Magic. I keep getting sidetracked. I just wanted you to know that I haven't forgotten about it and I'm still reading it.

message 130: by Malena (new)

Malena (badgalmalmal) Moss: I just finished reading Wicked Lovely. It was fantastic! I absolutely devoured it. Couldn't put it down. Ink Exchange is on my tr list - can't wait to get my hands on it.

Great pick - Moss you are wonderful.

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Courtney, no worries. I'm still in the queue for Bitten so I'm lagging behind too. Let's compare notes when we've both read our challenges.

@Mel, fantastic that you liked Wicked Lovely, I'm so glad. I've just finished Ink Exchange myself, just the day before yesterday. I'll be really interested to know what you think of it. I can't wait for the third book to come out, it's a continuation of the Aisling-Seth storyline and looks good.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I havn't gotten to mine yet as I'm working through my series of books for March challenge at the moment. I've still got it from the library and if need be, will read it first part of April.

Well...if you decide to stick with the series, I do hope you like it. I am sorry that for 2 months in a row I stuck you with something that didn't knock your socks off. LOL! I also hope that my bad choices don't stop you from participating in this challenge again. Hopefully next month you will get someone that can pick you a good book. LOL!

Lori (moderatrixlori) Lara wrote: I also hope that my bad choices don't stop you from participating in this challenge again..

Don't feel bad Lara, both people I picked for have never posted again so I think I must have picked really, really badly for them!

I haven't read my pic for this month yet but I'm going to. I had to wait for it to come in at the library. I have it now and I plan on reading it ASAP!

message 136: by Lara (new)

Lara | 109 comments I know I shouldn't feel bad, but I do. LOL! Unfortunately Sheree got stuck with me 2 months in a row and both books did not fair so well. But I guess that will happen when the 2 participants have completely different taste in books. I have had such luck with this challenge as both months the books that were picked for me I ended up loving. I wanted to do the same for Sheree. Oh well. Never give up! Never Surrender! LOL!

message 137: by Kasia (new)

Kasia I like your attitude Lara! This pick-it-for-me challenge is a bit of a gamble, true. But if you had bad luck twice, the third time's the charm, right?

I am really happy to hear that you enjoyed Falling Awake.

Happy readings!

Please don't worry about it. It wasn't a problem at all. Sheree and I joked about it. We didn't mind. Well she might have after 2 bad books. JK! LOL! I can imagine that it would be difficult for you to keep up with it all. No worries here!

message 142: by Sheree (new)

Sheree | 21 comments Hey don't worry about it Lara, wouldn't worry me if you picked for me again. LOL maybe Im just a fussy cow.
Seriously I read a lot of reviews that loved Dead Witch Walking straight up, maybe there's something wrong with my taste... but also read a few that said first one was so so, being a 1st book and then the rest in the sequel improve out of sight.
I am just happy to broaden my reading horizons, so pick away, I'm definitely up for the April challenge LOL. See I don't scare easy.

message 143: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Sheree wrote: "...but also read a few that said first one was so so, being a 1st book and then the rest in the sequel improve out of sight. "

Sheree, I'm behind those reviews but if you really don't like it - life is short, chuck it and grab something else.

And I'm glad you're up for April's challenge. Despite it all it's fun, right?

message 144: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments Tricia chose for me At the Edge by Cait London. This is an author I've never read or heard of before, so it was a good way to try something new.

The book is the first of a series following psychic triplet sisters. At the Edge is the story of Claire, who is a strong empath. When she is attacked in her home and beaten, she is forced to spend time with her new neighbor, Neil. It is hard for her to be near Neil because they have an especially strong connection, and she is able to sense his emotions relating to the kidnapping of his son many years before. We follow them as they track her attacker and unravel the truth of what happened to Neil's son.

The premise is interesting, and I liked the scenes surrounding Claire's attack. It was a little hard for me to get into the rest of the story, possibly because I wasn't able to identify with the characters very well. I'm not sure I would read the rest of the series.

All in all, it was still a great chance to try a new author. This challenge is really cool for that reason alone. Thanks for the suggestion, Tricia!

Nikki ♥ I've tried reading my pick a couple of times this month, and could not get into the story.

message 147: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Nikki you gave it a try - that's the point. Chin up! Maybe the next one would be a hit...

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I havn't heard if the person I picked for tried the book I suggested or not. I've got the book from the library suggested for me but havn't had time to start it yet.

message 149: by Glori (new)

Glori (divina) | 37 comments Hi Mel;

Thank you for the pick, but I could not finish Bitten. I sat down with the book three different times, but the story did not hold my attention. At the end, I skimmed through it and read the ending. We could blame the cold I have because shapeshifters are my favorite characters.

I will give the book another try when I am in a different mood.

:-)
