One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
question
Insanity

After reading Hamlet and learning about his path towards insanity, what do you think about his crazy actions and thoughts compared to those in the mental ward in Ken Kesey's novel?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest made me contemplate who was really insane. I believe McMurphy is not crazy, but gets caught up in the drama in the ward. I believe Nurse Ratched is the craziest character because she shows no remorse for her evil actions, such as ordered McMurphy's lobotomy. She is a typical psychopath.
I feel Ken Kesey's novel is more graphic and very descriptive. Do you know of any other great books by Ken Kesey?

Exactly! You nailed it. In fact, I think the European release of the film or book was titled Never Give an Inch.

I think both Hamlet and One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest play with the idea of "who's the crazy one here" as the foundations of reality crumble under the characters.
I believe all the characters are all insane to some extent. All of their views are twisted in some way. Not everyone deserved to be in the institution, but they changed when they had entered.
I think that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest gets more into the mind's of the characters and thus lets you see their mental state more clearly.
My main thoughts of the book was how the point of view was from one of the patients of the book, so he may have been hard to trust. Although he seemed sane, some of his thoughts and dreams made him really sound insane. I though each character had their own parts that made them insane, but even Nurse Ratchet seemed more like she belonged in the hospital, and that she should not have been the one running it.
